meagain I've been buying 8-10 boards at a time, pulling them up and screwing them down -- a couple of hours at a time, twice a week or so. And the boards are horrible in the stores. I'm going through 50-60 of them to get 10 decent ones. But I figure any problems with replacing them are really for the next owners -- 5-6 years and we'll probably move out of NY to someplace less taxing. This started a couple of months ago, I was only going to replace some rotten boards, but my wife decided I HAD to do the whole thing. Time to get out there and do a few more before it gets too hot.
I'll have to look into railings. I don't think ours are to code at this time -- we've had the house 17 years and they were probably on there a good 5-7 years before that. I replaced the treads on the stairs a few years ago, and they're still fine, but they never had risers, and I think they're necessary for code now, too, so one more thing I have to check.
