Given the covid precautions, our founder suggested a Virtual Desert Storm. We would all play on the same day, submit scorecards, and have a virtual toast at the end of the day (Zoom meeting) as we announce the winners. This would be Saturday September 12th. I think its a fantastic idea and would open it up to many more people.

September 10-12 are the dates in Phoenix, September 12 for the GolfBuzz Championship.

The Desert Storm Championship (Saturday, September 12th) - can now be competed in virtually.

It will be a Beat Your Handicap day. Play with your normal Saturday group, or anywhere you want. Just post the scorecard here when done. We will calculate based upon 75% of your handicap.

Scoring Requirements:
Slope from the tees played

Complete each hole according to the rules of golf, no gimmes.
(PS - we do shun, with prejudice, the 14 club rule. Ain't no USGA gunna stop these HOs!)

We will host a Zoom Meeting that evening to announce the results, share stories, and have a drink.

    Thanks Rick !

Still hoping things happen as this annual get together with all my brothers from different mothers is one of the most anticipated trips of the year for me.

Normally my flight is booked by now but will wait this year.
the later date will actually be better as my son heads off to University Labour Day so was going to be leaving later in the week.

    stay safe !

Thanks also Rick. I am retiring at the end of August and I'm planning to play at DS this year. Hopefully it will happen. πŸ™

I will be waiting like everyone else, not sure how long this is going to last. Hopefully we can get together come September 🀞

    2 months later

If DS is still on for this year you can pencil me in. My annual trip to SoCal has been cancelled so I am free. On top of that my bday is during the tentative time.

    20 days later

    Hi all!
Checking is to see how everyone is doing and what options we may consider for Desert Storm this year. Hope everyone is well!

I have still made no inquiries and am unsure how much planning to attempt as yet. Maybe a return to the long weekend (Thursday through Saturday) that was the original Desert Storm. I'm sure many would love an entire week of golf with friends, but circumstances may limit some of our vacation time.

Please let me know your thoughts as well as availability, or lack there of. Thanks!

I will be around, and happy to get a day or two in with folks. That being said, AZ has not been doing there part to slow the progress of the pandemic. Seems most of the outbreak is in more rural areas, but the numbers around here are somewhat alarming. Have to be mindful of what could happen going forward. Governor says there will not be another shutdown, so traveler beware.

        Thanks Clint.
That is part of my concern. The other being a little nervous about flying.
But there is plenty time until Sept.

Our COVID numbers are bad and people are not being smart when inside establishments. The golf courses for the most part are safe. For those traveling I would be hesitant going out to eat or to the bars. Some restaurants are shutting down on their own because they keep having employees test positive. I would be available this year to play as my other plans are canceled. I might even be able to convince my wife to let me host a post round get together in our backyard with proper social distancing etiquette in place.

Going to say my chances of attending are low ( 20%) this year. Lots going on in early September and then there is this virus thing and travel uncertainty. That said, its a bit far from September , but normally I've my flight booked in March.

if September fails, what about a winter storm ?

if September fails, what about a winter storm ?
        prices go up exponentially

          Sarnella

they do for sure. We have done winter before and always play cheaper courses....definitely not as good IMO

I like the idea of the long weekend. Late planning should be easy enough and, if the virus situation keeps bumping along, travel arrangements will likely remain available & flexible.

A long weekend works for me. Question is, housing/accomodations...How's that gonna work? Everyone on their own, share rooms/houses? Inquiring minds...

          a month later

So time is passing by very fast and I'd like to gauge serious interest in Thursday through Sunday golf September 10-13. Please let me know.

Knowing that this will be limited from years past I'm thinking the best thing to do is just get regular tee times as soon as we have clear numbers, rather than arranging 'outings'.

Also, let me know if you're comfortable sharing a house as normal, or if isolating in a hotel room as a preferred option.

Thanks all! Hope to see some of you in September!

            hobbit

It pains me to say that I am out this year Rick, just too much going on in September and who knows if borders will be open, plus a long way to travel for a weekend. Perhaps we can connect later in the Fall.

            gonna miss it πŸ™

I’d only be good for a round or 2 on Saturday this year since so many things have changed.
