As for Cherry's controversy, (which it can be called now since Sportsnet chose to fire him and also take some shine off Remembrance Day in the process thus throwing gas on a fire):
If you look at ALL of his remarks from a political point of view instead of the left wing racist lens they always resort to when attacking people while "cherry picking" what they want you to focus on, you will see where Cherry is really coming from.
The places he mentioned (TO, Mississauga,Brampton) are left wing strongholds and also have the highest concentration of "new people" to Canada. These areas are directly responsible for re-electing the most divisive PM in our modern history and a party that is historically anti-military. Combine that with an election anger that is still fresh here (especially outside the city) along with his personal vested interest in Poppy Day and it's no surprise an 85 year old man said what he said. He is not racist at all. He is a REAL Canadian and speaks for them, imo.
As for the firing, Sportsnet has the right to enforce any company policy they see fit as they are a private entity.
No issue with that. They will have to deal with the public backlash of that move, which could be significant in the public opinion category but not likely to hurt their bottom line.
Ron Maclean will also have to deal with throwing his supposed team mate under the bus. That could get ugly.
Stay tuned. It's not likely to die down soon.
