Picks should be made off recent form; past achievements mean nothing, jmo.

After Woodlands T-3rd last weekend and current T-3 he's a lock. I know too he's already been fitted for the team wear and swag. I'm disappointed the other handful of guys 'on the bubble' have been no-shows for two weekends. Tiger earns it this weekend and needs to play. He can coast on his own timeline until the practices and matches start in December. Surprisingly, Tiger has a very good record in Presidents Club matches too. I scoffed initially at him playing as Captain but now I'm in full support.

      He did earn it, but I'm just not sure he needs to play. He has to realize he has had his 'say' through the years, and it's time to let others take over/step up. If I thought Ernie was going to play, I'd be 100% behind Tiger playing.

      I think Tiger said as much, that he would be picking himself, during the interview after the round today. Woodland said it would be "dumb" if he didn't. So, no doubt he's going to be playing.

          I wonder if he picks himself but only play 2, maybe 3 matches (unless someone sh1ts the bed).....makes it easy on himself, everyone else gets more matches/playing time!

              Spuzz Yep! Like I said, the President's Cup is really meaningless, to me, and has been since they left it a tie all those years ago. Put some guys out there to prep them for the Ryder Cup. I'm sure there will be no feelings hurt with being not chosen.

                    IMO a no brainier ... Good for the team and Great for the event, fans (in person and on TV), and the sport!

                    Maybe Woods is the "Plan B" if no one else wanted to play with Patrick Reed?

                    I have respect for the journey Patrick Reed's been through to get where he is today. But he has to shut his yapper and quit going public with criticism of Captain's line-ups or fellow teammates not going out with their 'A' games for whatever reason. IMO, he's a piss poor member of any team competition he's participating in (despite the W-L record)..

                    Would have liked Na .... For nothing more than his interesting quirks...would've loved to see how that played out in a match .... But could not argue Tigers picks ... Other than not wanting to see Reed because I think he's a twatweasle, he's still a good pick!
                    I suspect Na will be the 1st alt if Brooks cannot lace em up!

                      So why not use a player who's trending upwards?
                      Not so sure about the Reed pick,he does talk way too much and doesn't always come off as being
                      a team player,Fowler might have been a better/safer choice.
                      As far as Captains duty's,behind the scenes I think Couple's and Stricker might have more input.
                      Tiger will just choose.....Black and white on Friday,white and black on Sat. and red and black for Sunday!

                      I kinda like watching full field Euro tour events more than The PGA. The American players come across as a lot of pain in the ass cry baby nerds with Reed leading the way. What happened to the Palmer, Trevino and Couples fun loving likable types? At least we don’t have to watch cry baby Speith and maybe “I love myself” Koepka.

                        The reason I thought he would not pick himself. But I do think he was pressured by his fellow golfers to do such.
                        I don't even agree with the Finau pick, let alone Reed. Several other players out there in much better form, now, and throughout last season.

                        I'm now hoping that a couple of Ernie's players come up 'sick' Sat. night. Just to force him to play against Tiger on Sun.. It would make the whole Cup thing interesting.

                            Who may I ask has played well, with results, the last few months that weren't already on the team? Tiger told them ALL to keep playing post the FedEx Championship, especially those hoping to be invited to join the team. Kevin Na won the Shriner's so I'm hoping he is the first alternate and goes if Brooks can't. I can't think of others that have had stellar starts to the new season.

                            I haven't read one analysis from the industry that has been critical of Tiger's picks, including tapping himself. (I'm sure they are out there, just not by the ones I subscribe to...)

                              The Number 9 Guy is the reason Paddy Harrington changed his strategy to 3 Captain's Picks.
                              He said nobody (or almost nobody) has ever NOT chosen that guy in the past.

                              As I said before (and now Weirfan), it's a missed opportunity to set up the future for the RC.

                                  I will say, in case I've been misunderstood, I do not believe a Captain should ever play in any matches, Ryder, President's, or any other cups. I don't care who they may be, or how good they may be, current or past.

                                  That aside, Tiger did pick all of the highest ranked U.S. players to go with the other highest ranked players that were automatically qualified. And they all just happen to be the highest ranked Americans in the world. Rickie is the only one out of place, but that was his own fault; Matt played superbly all season. 'On paper', it looks like he did the right thing.

                                  Plus, there are a lot of freebies that go along with being on the team. The guys that have been around, paid their dues, should be deserving of them. The younger guys will have many chances to reap their just rewards in the years to come. Everyone on this team appears they earned their spot, Tiger included, even if I don't agree with him playing.

                                      Should be an older, retired guy, who has also paid his dues and is rewarded in his twilight years.

                                      As I said earlier, if they were really interested in just winning, he picked the right squad.
                                      If they were thinking ahead and wanted to make it interesting for the fans and also set up the future, then two of the picks (Reed and Woods) are not the right ones.

                                      No matter to me, I will be watching hockey.
