I don't know what you consider a "strap" hanger. It shouldn't be like a metal pipe hanger strap. It should be a 90° angle steel stiff brace with perforations on both sides just like they use to hang the side rails.

This is my 1st door opener though, so we'll see how this turns out. Had to run the wife around for a while so will get back to it tomorrow. I'll get some pics up, if the opener is. 😂

I did it once - so anyone probably can. Funny, the old one would drive but nothing moved. I took the housing off of it and received a snow shower of ground up white plastic on my head from the gears that had stripped out. Have no idea what kind of drive mine has (just don't remember, but I think its chain). I just went to Lowe's and bought the Chamberlain they had on the shelf with the same power rating as the old one. Like meagain said, mine was put on with strap hangers by the builder and I didn't change that when I installed the new one. Been working ok (minus the wear out of the old unit's internals) for 25 years that way.

I do that a lot. A lot of stuff you buy today comes with pictorial instructions with little narrative I guess to avoid confusing "chingrish" and the pics are sometimes hard to interpret. Finding a tube video really helps.

I see no issue here. It's when the Chinese to English interpretation doesn't go exactly as it should.

Rickochet That was years ago. No Chinese interpretations these days. I find it kind of funny that, even though products might be made in China, instructions only come in English, Spanish, or French. These were only in Eng. & Spanish. Either they do not use them in China, or they know something we don't.

I did see the vid on this model before I ever bought it. And I did just go ahead and use the existing strap hangers, after seeing they would fit/work. Didn't want to have to rebuild the whole ceiling in the garage.

The scariest job I ever did on an overhead door was replacing the coil spring. The guy at Lowe's told me they don't sell the winding tool anymore because the job was too risky. A short piece of rebar works fine. 21 winds on that bitch was tenuous!

My door got in a jam and the opener destroyed the door. It was late in the afternoon and I had to do something to disconnect the door cables just to get it secured for the night. I quickly learned how much energy is stored in that coil spring when I disconnected the plate at the door bottom that held the cable. That sucker flew off at warp speed and scared the crap out of me. I was lucky I didn't get hurt. Only my underwear sustained some collateral damage. 😲

Most experts will highly caution you to NOT work on those coils. You're not supposed to unwind them all at once, Rick. But you know that now.
