Spuzz he point is, it doesn't take long (especially at that age) for the wheels to fall off an ungreased wagon.
It makes zero difference what clubs he uses because he is in no shape to swing them.
I would ascertain any senior person's mentality before attempting to rejig any equipment issues.

I've always been in fairly good shape, with the work I'd been doing. Since 'walking away' the 1st week of March, I've gone to total crap. Played a lot of golf, but riding due to not so hot knees...โฆโฆ..and now, so out of condition. Mow the yard. That's about it(walking). Told my wife I'll not make it through winter if I keep this up. I always shovel the snow, and it can be a lot most times, but I don't think I should be doing it this time around.
Golf game, scoring-wise, is good, but the distances I'm hitting is pathetic. Unbelievable amount of distance lost since last season, and no driver/shaft combo can rectify it!
Got to/going to make some changes, and it's not equipment-wise.
