No solace for the victim's family, but I'm thinking she's getting her come-up-ins.

Regardless of the sentencing,being a former cop convicted of murder,she's going to
have a BIG target on her back.
I'd be surprised if she survives 2-3 years in confinement.....unless she gets some kind of special perks.

She will definitely be in a segregation cell. If I was to go to jail, I would be also for formerly working in the system. She'll be in a little cement box with a tiny bed and a sink and toilet for however long she's there. She won't be getting out of that confinement the entire time she's there. I doubt she would want to. I know I wouldn't. She'll be offered rec time. I'm not sure how it works in the state jails but locally when you're in a segregation cell, you go to recreation time, alone. Not sure they can accommodate that at state jail level. Showering works the same way. You go alone at local jail. I'm going to guess she's going to be fearful to take a step outside or take a shower every day she's there.

Seg is one lonely existence. 3 meals a day and an officer checking on you every 15-30 minutes is what her life will be like for however many years she receives.

EDIT: This sentencing phase is ridiculous. I don't think I've ever watched one before. It's painful. Who cares about any of this? Of course, the family and friends are going to say good things about the victim and the perpetrator. Either could be the devil him or herself and they'd be sold as wonderful citizens.

She will be viewed as one of their own there in state jail. They showed her FB activity and I will guarantee the majority of the folks working at these state jail facilities think just like she does. She'll likely receive lots of favoritism.

Just heard that it is possible the jury could return with a 2nd degree charge instead of the 1st degree. If they choose to do that, she'll be facing 2-20 instead of 5-99. Also, it was misunderstood that she would be able to get an "appeal bond" to be out of jail while any appeal worked through the courts. Those have been quashed and now you must sit in prison until your appeal is successful.

So what happens this morning? Have they already been discussing this or will they just get instructions from the judge this morning and retire to discuss the decision. If I was in that situation I don't know if I would prefer the jurors making the decision or the judge. Can the judge ignore the jury's recommendation and make his own?

I heard last night this phase may take days. Guyger's side goes today and they're going to trot out as many as they'd like to speak to what a wonderful person Amber really is.

After the character witnesses for Amber Guyger are done, it is up to the jury to decide her sentence. The judge has no sway with this from my understanding. The same jury that went murder chooses how long. Of course, there'll be an appeal on this so whatever she ends up getting could be significantly shorter if she wins her appeal. I mean appeal on her conviction not sentence. She'll either get out on appeal or serve her sentence based on all the rules that go with it. Oftentimes, if you hear things like 8 years, it is often less than half that that actually gets served.

The sentences all have a "not less than", "not more than" phrase. So, she will be locked up for at least 2 years.

There is also this.....

"The penalty for murder is normally anywhere from five years to 99 years, but Judge Tammy Kemp told the jury Wednesday that they could consider a "sudden passion" defense that could reduce a sentence to as little as two years."

I mentioned the 2-20 thing yesterday. Jury would have to convict on 2nd degree not 1st. The legal expert I was listening to yesterday thought this would be very unlikely. I hope it doesn't take days to get the sentence back.

this was not an accident but murder so not likely, but Im not a bible thumper either, so don't believe that devoting herself to Christ will do SFA, nor will it bring back the man she murdered.

The family has no obligation to forgive her, but we can make the world a much better place by doing more than we're simply obligated to do. Extraordinary stuff.

I think I could forgive someone in pretty extreme circumstances, but maybe not her. Just too aloof and dumb. This was maybe TOO preventable to forgive, for me.

BTW, I agree with you. She chose to shoot him. She's an arguably awful human being based on what came out about her over the course of this trial. I wanted to see a precedent set that you can't get away with such things. It was and I am happy for that. However, Botham's own brother didn't think she deserved a day in jail. None of us know for sure exactly why she did what she did. Too bad for her, who she was came to light, and was used to interpret her actions through that developed profile.

To me...this is a fair sentence. I was hoping she'd get 8 and feared she'd get nothing. Also, I was concerned the jury who made the bold statement of handing down murder wouldn't be able to really stick it to her.

She'll be appealing and may get out a lot sooner. I doubt she does half of the 10 year sentence.
