I believe God smiled on Botham's little brother and his forgiveness of Amber. We are admonished to love our neighbors unconditionally through Christ's teachings.

I softened my view of Amber after the action of Brandt but also character witnesses that testified including her best friend, a fellow woman on the DPD who happens to be black. And the black woman Amber caught in a crack house raid that she pressed for diversion on her behalf. This 60-year-old grandmother had hit rock bottom and took her opportunity for drug rehab to clean up her life. Amber attended her graduation ceremony. Someone also testified Amber had been sexually abused as a child so she's been living with her own demons and searching for acceptance. Brandt provided something to her that she hasn't had much in her life.

There is no doubt in my mind that Brandt's testimony defused what would have otherwise been ugly protests because of the perception her sentence was too light by some in the Dallas community. I heard a report a 'couple dozen' still protested outside the jail last night with only 1 arrest. It could have been so much worse.

10 years is plenty ... She is easily rehabilitated vs. many who have deep seeded antisocial behaviors that have been learned from as far back as they can remember. Hopefully she takes the victim's little brother up on the offer or at the very least sees that people are good and forgiving and chooses to do something positive with her life. We gain nothing by casting her off and wishing bad things for her!

The family has no obligation to forgive her, but we can make the world a much better place by doing more than we're simply obligated to do. Extraordinary stuff.

I think I could forgive someone in pretty extreme circumstances, but maybe not her. Just too aloof and dumb. This was maybe TOO preventable to forgive, for me.

I see the judge is now in trouble for hugging her and giving Amber her bible. The amount of hate I've seen on Twitter from African Americans is crazy. Many absolutely HATE what Brandt did in forgiving thinking this makes all black people look weak and validates continued killing by whites because they're so weak.

Weak to be strong is how I see it. It really comes down to the issue of faith. If you possess it this is a thing of beauty. If you don't, this is backassward, stupid, sick and weak. I can't recall a recent example that illustrated the battle between spirit vs. flesh more than the reaction to this video clip.

I don't dwell on the media circus. In the midst of this horrible, avoidable tragedy, something truly remarkable happened.

Forgiveness.

That act of forgiveness, extended by a very brave and compassionate young man who had every reasonable right to condemn and judge his brother's killer, speaks a million times louder than everything else.

I pray that God blesses this young man for teaching those of us willing to listen and learn that love and forgiveness is always an option.
