Hey, you know as much as I know. I'm certainly not an expert on anything, especially the NFL.
But Reid is obviously a very good coach overall. He's had a notable influence/grooming a lot of assistants that have worked under him over the years who've gone on to more significant roles elsewhere. It's very difficult to find a player/head coach, former or current, who doesn't have a ton of respect for him. I think he's a great guy, too. What he went through losing his son to a drug addiction, listening to some of the self-righteous idiots talk about his lack of being there for his son and enabling his drug problem - it caused me to appreciate him even more with how he ignored such ridiculousness. People who're familiar with that situation know how helpless a parent feels to be in that situation.
Anyway...
The two most glaring nuisances with him during his tenure in Philly were his obsession to pass the ball and his inability to manage the clock. Every game it seemed like he would burn at least two timeouts because he couldn't get the play call into McNabb quick enough to avoid delay of game. Reid had no need for a running back other than using him as a decoy. That changed somewhat when we drafted LeSean McCoy, but even then we weren't remotely committed to the running game. That hasn't changed, as the Chiefs are ranked 25th in rushing yards currently this season.
As far as him being HoF material... definitely worth an honorable mention if winning a SB as a head coach isn't the first standard. I think he's still got several years left to tick that box. He's got a promising young QB who seems to be a gamer and has a good head on his shoulders. That old thought about 'defense winning championships' isn't as pertinent today as it used to be because the style of play has definitely changed over the years. I was reminded by a dear friend just recently that Philly's defense back in 2017 wasn't anything special, and it came down to players making catches and then one sack/fumble against the GOAT quarterback that finally punched their ticket. That said, at some point the defense has to stand firm and make a stop.
One other side note. The Patriots dynasty isn't going to last forever. Despite their lack of defense this season, the Chiefs are still currently the 2nd best team in the AFC. Not that this means anything looking down the road, but the future looks pretty good for KC at the moment. And... who's to say that they can't win it this season? The Patriots are still a great team, but they're not infallible.
