I know, right? I walked into an Edwin Watts here on Hilton Head Island and there sat a set of like-new demos 6-UW in my specs. I chalked it up to fate and pulled out the credit card.

PING G irons........love the way they frame the ball at address. All of the forgiveness is hidden from view. The impact on solid shots feels like you smashed the shit out of it. Sound is different as well as feel. The face of this model is a heat treated very thin steel. The sound and feel is kind of like a titanium face iron, like a K15 or Rapture. Flight is high like a shovel (think G15 or G20) and land soft. My longest iron is the 6, so I cannot comment on the 4 & 5. I chipped around the greens a lot today on the par 4s, using the 7 and 8 irons and these clubs really shine here too. Easy to pick it clean and run it up to the hole. These are strong lofted and I noticed. My PW is usually my 100yd carry club, but I hit twice today about 110. I hit the 6i about 150 - long for me. These sticks got me back to where I used to be on club selection. I guess the bottom line is, they play like SGI clubs, but look like GI clubs.

I think you made a good move to get these G irons and put it to use immediately.

God knows we can't wait another 10-20 years to get substantial discount from the new models today.

Glade you like these. I was wondering about the multi material ( Lego ) construction will not last as long as the one piece cast construction, but hey, who care in 20 years from now.
I'd be lucky to sit in a rocking chair and sip a cup of warm milk if I were still around by then.
    Enjoy the new toy.

      Release

It's a damn shame it's come to this - Made in China and ferrules, but I still love the brand and the customer service.......and I still have my fully-refurbished Eye 2 and ZING sets.

        sdandrea1

It might well be made in Uganda or some other countries from the continent of Africa in the near future....

It's weird that I like the Zing better than the Eye2, sure don't like the looks of the Zing but that set had helped me get through the tough time when I was recovering from injury.

Yep - we arrived back in VA last night. I called a neighbor and we're getting a soaking in Citrus County but no high winds.

I think I remember from the Ping Tour I did that the heads are made in China but assembled here in Arizona if its any comfort. How you liking them?

              sdandrea1

You'll still get a bit wet in VA.

Finally we also have some moisture here. Help to control the wild fire over the Eastside of the Cascade Range.
Over heard a comment from others while waiting in line at Rite Aid. "People got stupid when it started to rain". Didn't know what that guy meant. He could be referring to drivers could not adapt to the change of weather.

First few days of the raining days or the sunny days made people act weird.

Got a look at the Steelhead. Initial take was they look big. I play Callaway Apex so the SH might seem clunky to my eye. I will demo them to see how they feel. Not a snob against game improvement irons.

                  Release

"PING G Irons are heat treated using a specialized process, creating a Hyper 17-4 alloy that is 40% stronger than traditional 17-4 SS. This allows the faces to be thinner and provide four times the face flexing with improved stability. The results are big distance gains and a higher peak trajectory for better stopping power so you can hit and hold the green."

                  Release

We've had ~ 9" of rain from Hermine. Drained my pool several times so far. Supposed to get some more today. Just had one screen panel damaged in the pool enclosure. My course is saturated and not sure our Beat the Staff Labor Day tournament is going to happen.

Glad you like the G's. In addition the heat treating of the 17-4 softens the feel more than the G15's IMO. I'm liking them so much I'm think of adding a 5 iron.

Got to play with them on Thurs here in VA in my weekly Stabelford. They treated me well - broke 80 and won $22 for 2nd place. I don't think I'll get the 5i, though......... 8*)

Had a chance to swing by our local golf store.
Took a peak at this steelhead Xr model. All I can say is, the head looked huge comparing to the X14 PS.
I'm certain it's more forgiving. I just never had success with these larger iron heads. Even the Ping Zing would dwarf next to the Xr.

I'll try to demo it next time.
