KCee My course has similar troubles with doglegs. The course isn't long, but it's very narrow and tree lined with really thick rough. My driver and 3 wood can go too far on some of them, but I'm not as straight as I'd like to be with my hybrid. Also on some holes, laying back a bit gets you a flatter lie.
That is all the same for me. I'm hitting my hybrids better than I ever have, but my irons are still way more reliable. The shots I'm thinking of, there is so little margin for error. If my hybrid turns 15 yards one way or the other, I'm probably in that hellish rough and maybe have a tree in my way up ahead.
Also, there are some holes where the greens are so hard to hit, and hold, that I might just play down the middle safely and try to hit up by the front edge with my approach.
If I hit the 23 degree GW iron strongly enough, I can bend it to 22 or 21. If it needs to be 24, then okay. I don't need height, just total distance. When the course is soggy, it will not be in the bag.
