I went to the range for a few shots with the MP5 A-flex build. Swung at full length I was hitting outside-in smothered pulls. I gripped down to 47 inches and it came alive. It feels much better than the first one did. But still heavy I think. It demands an on plane downswing. I was able to get it right, and was hitting nice high long shots. They got out to the same distance as I experienced with the XXIO Prime. The best few were very slight fades, which is my normal good shot. The second best were just a hair left of center, with lower trajectory but full carry. Those would probably be huge on a dry fairway. I was probably just slightly out to in, and then whatever the face is doing at impact. I would take both shots all day long. I'll be very interested to see the height with regular golf balls. I'd like to see more height. That is one thing that wasn't lacking with the XXIO.
I'm playing in a senior scramble Tuesday, so I will try it on some holes.
The shaft weighs 51 grams. Using my Club Scout III, I measured the torque at 5.4 degrees. (UST claims 4.0. This is typical.) I did a full CPM profile with 454g weight, and it's a basic high launch profile. Numbers available upon request if anyone is keeping a profile database.
I tried to blow on the 33g Winn Lite OS grip, but as I feared, it blew out. It seems like a good grip, and I'll order a couple more to be able to try with a regular installation. So with a 50g grip, the club weighs 286g, the same as with the first shaft. But now the flex is reasonable. 213 CPM at 48" which is 4.4 on the PCS scale. That's right where I play. Although in this extreme situation, who really knows, lol. Swingweight is D2.5
I do feel some minor discomfort in my lower back from swinging this club. Not in the spine, more like the lower core muscles that I'm sure aren't as taxed by a regular swing.
