I thought we had a thread for this, but couldn't find it. What did you buy today?

My machine only has about 8 hours on it, so I'm gonna wait a bit.

sdandrea1 Mine has 23 hours but it’s probably 4-5 years old. God knows if the oil was ever changed. Runs fine but it’s piece of mind. People across the street got it but never cut their grass. He died, she moved.

I change the oil annually regardless of use. Cheap insurance. Belts adjusted, blade sharpened as needed. 7 month mowing season (April - October) with the most frequency in May June.

sdandrea1 My old tractor was a Scotts… a John Deere model made for Home Depot. I got it in 1998 and it died last year. I changed the oil 2 times. Used to have to add oil the last 10 years so it was sorta “self changing”.

Typhoon That is a chore I've historically neglected, but no longer do. I had too many walk behind mowers of various types and brands which have lasted between 5 - 8 years or so and I would maybe change the oil once every two or three years. Cause of failure was always one of two, lost compression from wear or seizure from overheating. New one, now a year and a half old, gets an oil change before the season and halfway through the summer. I'm betting it will last much longer that the other have.

My mower takes the prefilled filter thingy, like JP's. The only issue is I went from a $10 oil change, to now, $50.

LBlack14 Yeah, that was the thing I was thinking. It’s easy but you have to change the filter and oil now Everytime.

Bought oil and filter for my car. Was going to bring it in, but everyone wants $200 for 5L synthetic oil and a paper filter.

Also bought another package of golf gloves and hybrid headcover to replace the one that somehow vanished on the FL golf trip.

KCee Occasionally Costco has a pretty good price on Mobil 1. I prefer that, but the occasional promos on Napa synthetic (Valvoline) are very good as well.

[deleted] Yes I've bought oil at Costco, WalMart and Amazon. I can get oil and filter for <$40. I usually get a kit from FCP Euro for about $50. I would pay $150 for an oil change, but that $200 just pushes my cheapskate button lol.

KCee You're more generous than I. I stopped buying oil filters at Walmarket because the fram filters for my wife's went from $3.50 to just under $10. I've been buying Ecoguard synthetic rated filters on Amazon for $6. My commuter takes a paper element that is tougher to find so I've been buying smaller bulk packs on Amazon.
I can't remember the last time that I've taken a vehicle anywhere to get the oil changed and it's been about 10 years since I've had someone else do brakes for me. I would be willing to pay someone to do it, but the last guy to do it charged me $660 to do a front pad swap so I'll keep my money for a couple of hours on the weekend.

KCee Please tell me you know about the lifetime guarantee on all parts (oil and filter included). Put the used oil back in the bottle and filter in a plastic bag and ship them back. You pay shipping but get a full refund. NOT abusing their system, they say right on the website you can do this.

I've done it for a few years but no longer have the VW so I've got a credit with them. Will have to see if they carry oil for the new car.

[deleted] Honestly the most I've paid is about $100 for an oil change for my wife's SUV. It's a pain as the filter is tucked behind the front wheel well and the drain is waaay under the car. I have ramps and even a QuickJack, but her car is still a pain so I will pay. My car is 10X easier, takes less oil, paper filter (on top of engine) and yet they charge twice as much because my car is German and hers is Japanese. I just refuse to pay more for something that should cost less even if I can afford it.
