KCee I hate when we take a family trip and some times my wife and kids don't get the TSA Pre.
The rules specifically state each passenger needs a Pre-Check identifier number or they are required to go through full screening unless below a certain age. Sounds like you've been gifted with a waiver for your family members in the past too. It's a game-changer, especially in busy airports with one screening area with lots of gates for multiple airlines and it can be a cattle call getting through.
