sdandrea1 It has become "normal" to concede very short putts in match play, but as we all know, it's not required. What if Kuchar had decided to stand there and not concede the putt and watch Sergio miss it? Would he have been a "bad" guy?
Yup absolutely. However, if you listen to Kuchar's press conference he hems and haws quite a bit. I think one could reasonably come away from it with a take that Kuchar is being a little disingenuous. Just like he was initially disingenuous in the Mexican caddie debacle. He was the one who told the official he didn't give the putt, but would have if given the time. But he was turned away and looking down.
Again, in essence the two players are the field and whatever they decide goes. Each could give 20 footers if they wanted to.
Like I mentioned earlier on PGA radio. The comparison they brought up was the Petterson / Lee non-conceded putt. Just curious, but where did you come down on that one?
One difference in that case was Petterson wore the black hat and Lee wore the white hat. In this case Sergio wore the black hat and Kuchar wore the white hat.
Bottom line is I see the other side of the argument. Sergio was technically wrong according to the rules just as Lee was, but just as with the Petterson / Lee non-conceded putt there is a place for differing opinions IMO.
Don't have to thank you for being civil as you're always civil to a fault sometimes. Going by the reaction to my opinion here on Golfbuzz you'd think this was a 99% to 1%. But after listening to PGA radio this morning this issue, just as the Kuchar / Mexican caddie issue isn't as black and white as everyone here thinks.
