It's odd there would always be someone wish to break the rules.
It's good in the scientific sense and moving forward with progression to change the rules of golf in the fashion of total remodeling. But for the most part, rules enhance the charm of the game. Why, if anyone playing recreation golf, they've ignored some of the rules anyway. The use of foot wedge for a preferred lie is so common when I played with golfers other than my usual group. I don't mind golfs "find" preferred lie to enjoy the game more in their definition of "should be " and "fair". Personally, each time my golf ball find a divot in the fairway I view that as a challenge. Same goes with bunker, and places other than the ideal lie. How can one improves one's golf game if one does not like to play from all situations ?
What if the Tea Ceremony without all those " unnecessary " procedures ? What if we skip the proper way to enjoy a fine glass of wine ?
Of course anyone not playing the tournament or in competition with other golfers could do without most of the rules. Especially the new golfers could enjoy the game more and speed up the pace of play at a public golf course. I had taught new golfers to tee it up anywhere for the first few rounds of their life to hit the golf ball more solidly, enjoy the game right away instead of waiting after hitting thousands of range balls. It also speed up the pace of play quite a bit.
A fine cup of tea or a glass of wine should be enjoyed, in a proper fashion. If someone else wish to gobble it down with potato chips, it's fine with me if they don't spoil fun of the others.
It's a tough job to uphold the tradition these days, and it include the U.S.G.A. Committee For Rules.
