.....anyone watching on TGC.....has this course been redesigned or is it just the crappy SD footage which makes this course look so different. And assuming this is a Dye course......so many of these holes look super familiar in comparison to the four Kohler course I've played that Day designed.
84 players on TGC.....
I've not seen it, but I'll check it out.
I've never been a huge fan of his layouts, primarily because they tend to be overly demanding for even the more refined players in our ranks.
It’s been awhile since I’ve seen the tournament on TV. It seems like there were a few holes redesigned in the past couple of years, but I don’t think the overall layout was changed much. I didn’t really know it until I heard it on the radio, but apparently the date of the tournament has moved around a bit. Perhaps it looks different due to seasonal variation to the extent that exists in northern Florida.

I've only played two Pete Dye courses. I've played Southern Hills in Hernando County Fl. several times and the Harbor Course (Grand Harbor) in Vero Beach Fl. I'm 10-12 capper and found them very playable. I know Dye courses have a reputation of being difficult, by the two I've played don't reflect that reputation.
It’s a shame that some iconic courses on the pro circuit are getting dumbed down to accommodate the new bomb and gouge style of play. 20 under is what the tour is looking for. I enjoy watching ( and playing) interesting courses that ask for precision shot making. Most all the courses I play in my area are tree lined not overly long but tighter shot value layouts.
PA-PLAYA his Kohler designs are a mix. IMO there is room off the tee, and at times generous amounts, but go far from there past the first cut and you are likely in a huge bunker/waste area or on some mound with long grass, and I mean long. Essentially you are likely to be f$cked. Huge undulating greens, often with tiers/sections, and very tricky to read. I once had the best or one of the best ball striking rounds I've ever had while playing the Irish course at whistling straits and managed to shoot a 79 with 34 putts!
