Weirfan wonder if folks would feel the same way if Kuch had broken the agreement or would they be hypocrits?
what if Kuch made the cut but finished last /T72 which paid out $14,112 with a $706 caddie fee.
2 weeks later Kuch says to Ortiz, we had an agreement of $3000 if I made the cut but the caddy fee based on the norm is $706, so I think that I should get $2000 back.
I think if that actually happened the reaction would be the same. Wealthy golfer shafting the little guy. That's the story like it or not. All the opinions that it's extorsion etc., doesn't matter. It came down to protecting a brand. Kuchar has a brand and his sponsors I'm sure didn't like what was happening to their brand.
Like it or not public opinion was against Kuchar. He could have stuck to his original position and suffered the consequences. There's a lot of emotion with this issue. Luckily cooler heads prevailed and Kuchar listened to what was best for his image and his brand.
My guess is his sponsors like Bridgestone, Sketchers and RBC etc. are happy with the decision he made. This could turn out to be the best $50,000 he ever spent.
