Tiger HAS gotten away with it. Nobody outside golf forums or who read Haney's book knows he's a tight ass. That's why it's strange it's an issue with Kuchar outside the golf world. Unless there's something more to it, hmmm?

I don't see how Tiger has gotten away with it? I'm sure he has gotten away with many things, but since he is considered a cheapskate by the public that tells me that he HASN'T gotten away with it. A LOT of people hate Tiger. If he got away with more things then less people would hate him lol.

I am surprised Kuchar didn't get away with it. Maybe he didn't "get away with it" because most people don't golf and to them the story was just about a rich successful guy not paying a "fair" amount to a hard working class guy. Again, I don't think Kuchar did anything wrong....although I do think he may be a bit cheap....but evidently many people believe that he should have payed more. I think Tiger would be facing even more wrath given how much money he has compared to Kuchar. Tiger is hugely successful though and since he was already considered a cheapskate he could probably better survive it.....we would expect it from Tiger....we were shocked it was Kuchar. We aren't surprised that Sergio was destroying a green with his putter, but imagine if there was video of Kuchar doing that? It's just not how he was perceived to be.

KCee I would argue that no non golf fan has any idea that Tiger is cheap, yet tons of non golf fans are calling Kuchar cheap.

No big deal either way, but I don't believe if Kuchar had payed this to somebody he picked up in the US at a US tournament it would be anywhere near the story.

"WE" is dedicated golfers. Nobody else knows Sergio damaged greens. My wife doesn't know but she heard about Kuchar. I've had non golf fans who know I play ask me about Kuchar, nobody asked me about Sergio. This has gone beyond a golf story because the press is playing it as rich white guy stiffs brown man.

Oh my, wonder why the media fails to mention the good things Kuchar does for society? Here is an example: Several PGA Tour golfers playing in this week's Cadillac Championship at Doral took in a Miami Heat game on Wednesday night. One of them, Matt Kuchar, even got a chance to shoot a half-court shot for $25,000 to give to charity. He barely missed but still gave the money out of his own pocket to United Way.

It appears 'El Squawko' isn't one of Matt's favorite charities.

I do also. They make less than minimum wage and tips is where they make up for it. Even if the service is bad, which I have rarely seen, I tend to still tip well because things just don't always go the way you would like, and the server may not be the cause of it. Anyway, this thread is the ONLY place i have heard of this "incident", no matter how some would like it to be a thing, it just isn't. Why in hell would Kuchar go into "damage control" mode. LOLZ.

Agree on all fronts. It was extortion and Kuchar caved. Glad it's done, I really don't give a rats ass about Kuchar or El Tucan but I like to debate.

Weirfan why would Kuchar not expect to win?

For starters, he hadn't won in over 4 years. So, he would have been a monstrous betting longshot to win. TW is the only Pro golfer I ever heard of making the statement of expecting to win. Every tournament.
I'd guess 90%, hell maybe more, are just looking to play well, make the cut, and make a small wad of cash. And if I'd say 10% know they are good enough to win a given tournament, that would be too high as typically 150+ are entered. There are not 15 of them that could win any given tournament.

Matt was plain ol' blackmailed, and fell for it/talked into it, finally. Regardless of any derogatory statements he had made, he never should have given that ass another dime. He did also make a contribution to that tournament, and should have included the 45K as a gift.... from 'el chapo', the gentleman caddy!😡

So, a guy agrees to caddie for a predetermined amount of money. His player wins, and he gets paid the agreed upon sum, plus another 25% bonus.

Sorry, can't be outraged. Nor does anyone have the right to spend Kuchars money. I haven't read much on this topic since I don't give a crap. But, I wonder if David Ortiz still got paid even though he couldn't make the trip with Kuchar?

Just saw an update on ESPN that Kuchar is paying the caddie the $50k he asked for. Probably a small sum to make this headache go away. I guarantee this will lead to changes in how players hire temporary caddies in the future.

In the rest of this latest statement he used the word "marginalized" which indicates he couldn't cope with the racist comments. I assume he meant the bit about what he said about it being a good payday for the Mexican.
No mention of any regrets on the original agreement though, as far as I can tell.
