Listening to PGA Tour Radio there's a consensus that Kuchar's agent Mark Steinberg (also Tiger's agent) should never have let it get this far.
Hank Haney tells the story when he got a call from Mark Steinberg telling him that there was a story coming out about Tiger and a girlfriend. Steinberg told Haney that it wasn't true and to just say no comment. Of course it was true and because of that Haney doesn't think much of Stenberg.
Many are saying that an agent is there to help protect you from bad PR and in this case Steinberg has failed Kuchar. Kuchar is naïve thinking this isn't a story. Everyone's opinion aside, this is a pretty big story going beyond just the Golf media.
Also, the overwhelming opinions in favor of Kuchar on this forum don't reflect what I'm hearing on PGA radio. As I said in my first post, doesn't matter where you stand on this, the fact is it is hurting Kuchars reputation.
Having time to digest all this my take is the $1000 dollar bonus for winning was on the cheap side. Especially since Kuchar hasn't won in 4 years. Kuchar had all the leverage in negotiating the terms. The caddie had no leverage. Like Mike Collins and Pat Perez said, Kuchar could've changed this guys life with a more generous percentage.
The fact is this story is well passed looking at it as a dispassionate verbal contract between a wealthy PGA Pro and a non English speaking local caddie.
