  • Multiple Lawsuits Are Headed the NFL's Way for Do-Over of Rams/Saints

Man, ya gotta love this... The guy who committed the multiple infraction penalty got fined, big time...

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Robey-Coleman has been fined $26,739 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless receiver. That foul joined defensive pass interference as possible penalties that should have been called on Robey-Coleman, who admitted after the game that he was trying to commit a foul in order to keep Lewis from catching the pass and running for a touchdown.

Maybe a suspension was in order also?

Nah. They usually don't fine guys for first offenses. Unless he has another one or more of these in his past, there'd be no basis to suspend him.

So, anyone holding out that this wasn't 3 penalties on one play now sees that even the NFL has indirectly admitted it stole the SB appearance from the Saints.

Incorrect. What the fine is saying is that because the NFL is having problems of press, investigations, etc., over the 'concussion/brain trauma' issues, they must show they are being diligent in trying to stop all of it. I'd bet their att'ys were on the phone with them, before Sean Payton got his call!

an aside- I don't think the majority of these helmet-helmet hits are all that intentional. Remember, both players involved have brains, and like helmets. Why would anyone want to (potentially) knock themselves into a stupor, or coma? If you want to sideline someone, put that helmet behind his kneecap. From the front.

          Par4QC

It's saying both. Concussions were down considerably from 2017...at least the diagnosed ones.

In case of this hit, it was intentional. "Whacked his ass" translates to...I was willing to spear him in the head with my helmet to prevent a touchdown.

The league has admitted that the ref made an epic mistake with the no-call. This talk that Goodell should put these two teams back on the field to finish the game from the no-call onward is one of the stupidest ideas in the history of all forms of human stupidity.

It can't happen, for a plethora of commonsense reasons. Goodell can't undo what happened. And not because of the no-flag situation... but because it would be logistically impossible. It's too late in the process, even if Goodell wanted to side with stupidity with a redo, because it wouldn't be fair to the Patriots now that they've spent the better part of a week scouting the Rams and formulating their strategy based on the Ram's weaknesses and strengths. Not to mention that should something happen that the Rams were to somehow win again in the redo - what happens if one of their starters gets hurt and can't play in the SB? How fair would it be to the Rams regarding resting their players equally as much as the Patriots?

What about other events slated for the stadium? What about the networks who suddenly have to get their crews down there to do an hour-long gig? What about the cable company having to rearrange their regularly scheduled programming? They'd have to cover it, right? Can you imagine the redo not being televised? It would be criminal, I tell ya! Criminal! Because you're gonna be lucky to get 2000 people to show up in attendance, me thinks.

And then you have to have the same officiating crew back on the field, otherwise an entirely new can of worms gets opened. And it's obvious that one of them should've reffed his last official game for the NFL, but you can't replace him, otherwise there's an obvious perception of something underhanded going on, especially those who ran to the top of the mountain Sunday evening and screamed as loud as they could that the no-call was a conspiracy!

And really, it's not a guarantee that the Saints would've won had the call been made. Even if one says, "well, it was at least 95% that they would've prevailed."

Do you know how many times over the years that those same odds have been defied? Especially in a win-or-go-home playoff situation? How many extra point kicks, from short range, have been missed this season? Last season? Over the history of the game for that matter? So let's say for the sake of argument that Goodell loses his mind, does a complete 180ยบ, and says, "screw it. put 'em back on the field and let's redo it." For starters, you can't assume the guy would've caught the ball, even if he hadn't been interfered with. So the only "fair" option in this f'd up scenario is that the play would be scrapped, and the prior down be replayed and everything starts at that point. And let's just assume (again for the sake of argument) that the Rams again prevail, fair-and-square this time around.

Would this redo appease the Saint's fans? The team, management, owner? Of course it would not. The overwhelming opinion from the diehards would still deem it illegitimate, blaming the fact that the Saint's should've won the game the first time around.

Rule number 1 when you find yourself in a hole?

          Put the shovel down.

Not even me thinks the game should be done over at this point. I don't think it should've been replayed at any point but I would've loved to see it.

Replaying the game has never been my point. All I want at this point is for the NFL to ensure they don't let this happen ever again. It was a travesty.

Rams fans are even victims because they can't even feel right about what happened. Somewhere in their minds they know this was wrong. The mental gymnastics they have to live with isn't fair to them. There would be none for the Saints.

Yes, you are correct it's not 100% the Saints win. However 95% is selling this situation well short. It was much closer to 99. something perccent. It would've taken a Miami Miracle type play for the Rams to win OR Payton going for the TD which was far likelier than a Miami Miracle. Again, 3 knees and the Rams get the ball with under 10 seconds left and no timeouts. A chance to throw two hail marys from likely their own 25, or one pitch play. I suppose a 30 yard pass and get out of bounds was the best route, but that only ties the game and percentage would be down from 99%.

People keep talking about what if the Saints fumbled or what if Lutz missed the kick etc. etc. ...again, New Orleans only had to take 3 knees and kick a 20 something yard FG with around 10 seconds. The odds of this going off with some kind of hitch were beyond astronomical. If you want to argue the Rams score a TD from their own 25 with under 10 seconds and no timeouts or get into FG range bring that. I guess you could argue the Saints had the Vikings down to their final play and gave up a TD the year before. The odds of that were astronomical. The odds it happens two years in a row this time in their home stadium go beyond astronomical, but admittledly still possible. What is the extreme probability? Saints win and are in the SB.

Plus, I could be selling the time as too much. There was 105 seconds left. The play clock is 80 seconds. The Ramas have to call a timeout. It's possible the Saints could've made it so the FG attempt was walk off. It would've been close.

            I agree.

Beyond that, the game isn't over until the last second ticks off the clock and the final play is made. I don't disagree that the odds for the Rams winning would've been astronomical. But again, not impossible either, as we've witnessed many other times throughout the history of sports in general, not just in pro football.

Kronke bought "the no call" but then kronke has always been a trust fund criminal. Refs are human as in "fallible.
That said, anyone with a grain of sense and an elementary knowledge of football knows that the game was fixed as in bought and paid for by aforementioned "kronke kriminal" with commissioners blessing. Dont blame the refs, blame the messenger... Can we just have a fair and competitive game, what are the odds on that???

Here's an interesting tidbit... The same guy who put 1 million on the Eagles to win last year put down 1.5 million on the Rams to win tomorrow.

You decide what kind of game you're getting tomorrow. L.A. needs to sell those PSL's.

Watching the replay of that play, there was a referee on the sideline watching, you can't tell me that he didn't see it, as far as I'm concerned, this was not just human error.
