  • You passed out from drinking too much...and yet you're the "victim"?

The behavior of picking up drunk or drugged female for sexual advance is not new.

It's the frequency of occurrence and the general acceptance of these kind of behavior.

I read a news of a young female teacher in Korea gang raped by 3 student parents after she got invited to their table at a restaurant and got drunk. The locals said it's no big deal, obviously this kind of stuff happens all the time over there.

The bar for moral standard had been dropping in recent years. The bad trace of human being had ballooned and seen as acceptable behavior.
My kids told me cheating in the higher education for better grades is very common, openly soliciting cheating partners.
One of my kid was approached by a student ( turned out to be one of the student speaker for the graduating class in the school of xxx-xxxxxxxxx ) to sit together during the Exam to "help each other ". My kid earned multiple honor /distinction cords for the graduation and that kid has none. Apparently the student speakers for that school were not one of the top students but from those who voluntarily submitting a copy of speech to the teaching committee. Actually the top student (3.96 GPA also the President's award winner ) was absent that day.

Cheating was there when I was in college, not as common as today''s behavior and certainly was not openly solicited. This ACCEPTANCE of employing the lower means to get what you want is a very pronounced behavior these days.

I made a mistake. There should be no retrial, obviously the correct verdict was found. However I think there should be some review of the sentencing process.

After reading the OP thoughts I had to sit in my chair by the computer and contemplate what he posted. I bet I sat here for five minutes trying to understand how and why he would respond as he did. I just shook my head in amazement. To me it is inconceivable anyone could come to that conclusion in this day and age. I guess everyone is welcome to their opinion, but his not only bothers me but scares me that someone could think like that. How can anyone condone the rape of a defenseless person man or woman? Sad, sad commentary.

She's passed out, she's fair game? Really? So she remembers what happened, which means she was awake and probably resisting, but yeah, its ok because the young man had been drinking?

When I was 18, I had just finished a 14 mile night run in preparation for MCRD San Diego. I stopped by a friend's house on foot, they were having a house party. I asked where a couple of the guys were and I walked back to the last bedroom. I opened the door and there was a neighbor girl named Julie who was a fitness nut and body builder, laying on the bed, passed out, about to be pawed on by one of 3 guys in the room. I gave them the death stare and proceeded to wake her and I helped her go outside. I spent 30 minutes with her while she vomited and when she was able I walked her across the street to her house.

I never said a word to any of those guys, but it was obvious they were on the verge of being scumbags and anyone who takes advantage of someone like that is one.

The strong protect those that are unable to, not prey upon them. I am not telling this out of self-gratification, or to be noble. Everyone has ius gentium, or natural laws of right or wrong within them. If you are pawing on a defenseless person, you are wrong and you know it.

        I think one aspect of the OP makes sense but only in the context of helping ensure the safety of potential victims. Our daughters should be fully aware of the sad truth that the scumbags are out there and that certain behaviors could put them at greater risk. This of course has nothing to do with the culpability of the scumbags for committing rape. Throw the book at them. But I would be concerned if my daughter was going to parties attended by a lot of people she does not know and drinking to the point of passing out.

          It is certainly poor judgement to go to a large party and get plastered without a number of friends watching out for you.

          However, I cannot excuse a guy who is pounding an incoherent woman. I cannot believe he was that drunk or he wouldn't have been able to do the nasty.

          Yes, there are no excuses for that guy. He was seen doing it. No way for him to claim it was two drunk people who did it consensually.

          I believe that's the point the OP was trying to make. Not that this young lady deserved it (because she didn't) but she did put herself in a poor position by making some bad decisions. It's unfortunate that the wrong person came by and took advantage of the situation. The worse part is that this happens more than people want to admit... it's just that someone takes care of the young lady instead of raping them.

          One question... where were this girls friends?

            Kids today are not just wanting a good time. They want to push the limit to "just do it" and many other promoted theme. They can't separate the exaggerated propaganda slogan from the reality.

            They drink to get fu*ked up, not just to have a good time. They use hard drugs to skirt the border of live and death.

            Education and learning process starts at an early age, can't free range them and wait for "the right moment" .
