sdandrea1 .300 is going to be pretty loose at the bottom. I have always hand sanded the bottom 1/2" to .355 (using calipers to measure) and left the rest at .370.
I wouldn't even consider it if it went .300 all of the way to the PTS. The shaft prepping has taken the entire shaft PTS to .363. The sharpened shaft goes from .300 to .363 in a 1/4" and still has 1" of PTS inside the hosel. My question is will epoxy and beads be sufficient in the lower 1/4"? Another thing I might try is to use the sharpener to take the tip to .355 then wrap the hosel with tape at 5/8" and hand sand above the sharpened tip to the tape. The sharpened area might be a good visual guide for hand sharpening.
A funny story from about 20 years ago when I started building clubs a bud had some graphite irons that he wanted some new shafts in. I pulled the old shafts and stuck in some low end Hireko shafts. He used these for about 5 years with no issues. Only years later after the internet developed and more club making info became available did I find out that the heads I had reshafted were taper tip and I had glued in parallel tip.
