There was a thread on these but it turned into a long contentious thing about other things, so... Who's played or playing these, and what do you think about...

kelco9 . What has been your experience with accuracy on off-centre hits?

Straight. Straight. Straight. I hit a toe shot today on a long par 3 (174y) that resulted in a slight push to the right and landed just short of the green. Had to carry 100 yards of water, BTW. The ball mark was way out on the toe. I crushed one today (center hit) on a par 5 (2nd shot) that carried and rolled to a spot I'd never reached before. This is a solid head.

sdandrea1 The loft on the Pinhawk 5w is stamped 20 degrees (a strong 7w loft), but it flies longer than any 7w I ever owned. It could be I got just the right shaft in it

Just remembered, I did buy a new Cally Heavenwood last summer. But damn me if I can hit it straight; everything goes left. It does have somewhat of a closed face on it though. Also bought a new Cally XR 3 wd. that does the same thing. Also with slightly closed face, which I cannot deal with.😝
I'll be getting rid of both of them in the spring.

IIRC you were also "going" to buy some new Steelhead irons, no?

Rickochet 🤔 aye....and still am, now that the price is palatable. Will be trading in the 2 clubs mentioned above to make it even more tasty. They are less than 1/2 price now.

I bought a new set of TM M1 irons instead though, I admit. Beautiful heads, graphite shafts. 1st time I used them was overshooting the greens! The clubs just seem way too light though, hard getting used to them even after a few rounds, but really don't want to get rid of them. May do a reshaft. AND still get those Steelheads.
Just because, ya know?

Slap some long strips of lead tape down the backside of the shaft (long ways). That would give you a idea if extra weight would work with those clubs.

Loaned my 5w out to a playing partner today in my Tues group. He it 3 times and smoked it 3 times. Just sold another! Ordering parts now.🙂

He saw my 5w. Next hole he asked to hit it off the turf. Next hole he tees off with it. Next hole he tees off again and says "I want one". I say,"don't u want to know how much?". He says "I dont care....I want one just like yours". I ordered the stuff already with a grip to match the rest of his set. I only charge my cost of parts and shipping. 🙂

Acer Velocity, 41.5 inches.

Make sure that you tip trim the shafts for the head weight. I tip trimmed my 3, 5, and 7 as I would for my usual 5 wood head. And FWIW my Pinhawk SL fairways are 43.5" long. 🙃

Not my first rodeo, Rick, but thanks for the reminder. 😉

41.5 is the recommended length for these heads and the swingweight comes out just right at that length with the Acer shaft and a "normal" weight grip.

This wasn't directed at you Steve. It was statement made for the general public. For some reason many get screwed up with single length stuff and only think about length and not proper tipping for shaft flex. Get the flex wrong and it is screwed from the get go.

Yep, for sure! I think these Pinhawks are the weight of a normal 5 wood head (220g), so tip trim accordingly.

6' 2" and wear 3x shirts, so not a small dude. Years ago I was building a set of irons for myself and tip trimmed them and glued them in. It was a shaft I hadn't played before and I didn't want to butt trim them without trying them first. They were 2" over standard length and I blew the grips on. As it turned out I really liked the length and that is what I play to this day. 2" over on everything.
