Maltby DBM Forged irons.....OMG!!!
Wishon gets a lot of kudos for his club design work but I think we should talk about Britt more. I think he's been the prime designed at GW for quite some time and has brought out some great, playable iron designs. And to my eye his design aesthetic is way better than Wishons in most cases.
bad9 I tend to agree with you. Wishon designs did look cleaner (graphics) for the most part, but didn't always look as good at address as the GW irons IMO. Many times the blade length looked a bit too long or short and the offset wasn't blended in well.
I loved the 560MC irons performance and they looked great in the bag, but never quite right at address. Same with the 771CSI. I'm nitpicking of course, but I think if Britt had tweaked Tom's designs that would have been perfection.
colej For me most wishons (not counting the wishon 979) feel much firmer at impact. Maybe a difference in VCOG between wishon and Maltby?
I can't say I noticed that until you mentioned it, but I always did think Maltby cast irons generally had a softer feel than many other mfrs cast heads. Didn't know if it was design (cavity) or heat treatment.
Maltby did seem to go for a lower VCoG as that seemed to take priority for their MPF. I felt like the last 10 years they have made more iron designs just as forgiving without a super high MPF #. Maybe Britt was freed up from MPF constraints?
Those look fantastic. I can't wait to see specs and an ETA. I was thinking of something new to start 2022 but I might hold off until I know more about these.
I don't and never will get all the hubbub about these. Just an average cavity back iron to me.

How big is the market for component blades???? There are component and off brand blades coming out of the woodwork. I just can't see many scratch type playas saying yeah, I got to get me those Maltby blades. I can't wait to show them to the other guys at the club.
I say this as a guy who is playing Maltby irons, and they might be the best iron I've ever owned.
I wonder if the blade thing is more of a self-indulgence by the designers/owners of some of these companies. Maybe they get tired of designing and selling clubs over and over again for 20 handicappers, and they want to make something that makes them feel proud. Which would be fine, it's their company after all.

For me, I just like a clean looking iron, without a bunch of color or splashy medallions. A good sole design and specs that I like would make it even better. I like a satin finish as well on my irons so these check a lot of boxes for me.

Like this Joe?

Those look great, Scott. I think they are chrome or mirror polish though if I'm not mistaken. I like that much better than a dark finish that wears like crap, but satin is my favorite.
Now wedges, for some reason I like raw like the Callaway vintage finish over satin. Maybe that's odd, dont know...
JoeHatesSnow Louisville Classic 50's Blades just received from an old clubmaker friend of mine when we were both Louisville clubmakers in the late 90's. New old stock 2i - PW hard to find some of the last true forged iron blades made in the USA. Old school lofts 28 deg. 5i and 48 deg. PW.
BTW the Maltby DBM's or the old designation M-05 are great smaller CB's rate them with Swing Science FC-One Pro Forged or Wishon 575MMC. I have played Maltby M-05, SS FC-One Pro Forged and Wishon 575 MMC in any of them you can't go wrong.
DonM How big is the market for component blades????
I wonder as well. I love the look of most ‘blades’ but when I see one I see them all. Just like the SMT MB-3. Love the look of it but I wonder how well something like that sells.
