Tinker You talk about the early immigrants having an easy time. I guess you consider 12 hours a day in a coal mine an easy time. The early immigrants assimilated because they worked their ass off, provided for their families, obeyed the law, participated in their children’s education and Ignored the ethnic ridicule they faced. A lot different than what happens in the crime infested urban areas of today. I still hear a Polish joke about once a week. Should I fight, protest or call CNN?

My grandparents emigrated from Italy in the early 1900's. They settled in a small PA town, worked coal mines and raised 9 children. My Dad shared some stories that made me proud to be descended from folks that survived those times and tolerated the ethnic hate.

Ethnic is NOT THE SAME as racial. How can many of you be so obtuse?! Good Gawd! And, I NEVER said those Caucasian immigrants you're all referencing didn't have it hard. They were the underprivileged working class. Wonder how their lifestyles may have been similar or different from all those relatively recently freed slaves?!

White cop shoots black man.(man of color, anyway) Who? jumps up demanding "justice"......not for a human being, but for a black man?(not a man of color in this instance) There is Al on the TV. There is Jesse on the TV. There are the black attorneys, on the TV with Al and Jesse.(I did see 1 white attorney 1 time) The national news carriers have the immediate issue on the news, as national headlines-top story, ASAP. The anchor talks a bit about it before turning the story over to the reporter on the scene......a black newsperson!

If I should ever be in trouble with the law, I'd seek out THE BEST counsel. If I am sick/dying, I want THE BEST Drs.. If my car is not working properly, I will seek out THE BEST mechanic shop. etc., etc...…...give a fuck if they be male, female, white, black or all 4 combined!!!

Yup, I stated racist. Sorry you viewed that truth as a personal attack. See, I'm a racist too. It's simply inevitable. It's human nature to generalize from individuals to groups. Hence, stereotypes. Are there some truths in stereotypes? Yes. Are there falsehoods in stereotypes? Yes. The generalization and tendency to refer to "they", "them", "those people" are all linguistic examples of generalizations - and racism. In and of itself it not so insidious.

The rich white ruling class are NOT my homies. It was interesting to see how things were when a "black" President was in power. I think African americans felt empowered and valid in ways they never ever did before and white folks felt diminished in some ways when the first not white POTUS was in charge. It was phenomenal white folk got a tiny taste of what it was like not to feel like everything was their way. Many were extremely uncomfortable.

People are always going to want to feel superior at any level...work, home, church, golf course, it doesn't matter. Race is just one of the many ways to get there for many.

While I believe the partial quote above to be an accurate opinion. I had hoped that the racial injustice in our society had been moving in a positive direction. Unfortunately, that is not the case. I will still stand up for my beliefs and not be silenced.

It is moving in a positive direction. You just see the examples of where it isn't blasted on TV and the internet. That clouds true reality. The fact Barack Obama was elected should tell you things moved in the right direction.

One thing I've always noticed is that people of whatever race like to be with people of the same race. I've seen it at lunch tables at work my whole life. White goes with white and black with black with very little deviating. It's clearly a familiarity thing and I get that.

If I had a choice to move into an all black neighborhood or all white. I'd choose all white. I've been the only white dude in a church with all african americans...never been stared at like that other than the time I walked down the street during an inner city 3 on 3 basketball tourney in Rochester, NY...I was a rare white guy and got lots and lots of looks. Has always stuck with me what it must feel like to be the only one of any race in a group.

Your noise will change nothing. It does more harm than good. I don't believe a single heart was changed in a positive way when streets were blocked in protests. It had the opposite effect in my view. OJ Trial would play out the same way today as it did then. Whites thinking guility blacks thinking not guilty.

Some things are the way they are regardless of how you feel about them. I'm never going to change people from being selfish, greedy, racist, immoral no matter the noise I create. The only caveat is within the confines of my faith. Those who would state they share it are potentially able to be reached.
