garyt1957 Well, in the last few weeks, I have been sorely tempted to make a post on this thread that goes something like this: "F---k this thread, F---k this thread, F---k this thread."
I started playing as a young boy and had plenty of instruction, including extended-stay golf camps. So, I developed a good, conventional swing and I have always been a decent, but not great, player. But somewhere in the last while I have become a tinkerer. This thread fed that tendency --- and it's killing me! Not only am I playing some of the worst golf I have played in decades, but I can't find my way back to my old swing.
Yesterday, I decided I was going to persevere and see if I could find my old swing. But after five very frustrating holes of atrocious golf, I decided to try something that I have been playing around with into my backyard net, but thought that I would never take to the course. I figured, "What do I have to lose."
I opened my stance...ALOT! I opened it at least 45* on all shots, including drivers and FWs. On short wedge shots, I wasn't far off facing the hole with my body! I used very little arms and almost all body turn, concentrating on hitting the ball up my target line. Now, I didn't shoot the lights out or anything like that, but I played WAY better than I have in awhile. I never felt like I was going pin hunting, but I only missed two greens on the 13 holes I used this swing.
So, the tinkering continues. I think there is an "optimum" openness to the stance and a proper ball placement that might really work. I just have to find it. 🙂
