I really am surprised that your case wasn't thrown out, especially with an attorney, and shocked that you needed to take a driving safety class to get the careless driving citation expunged. I was born and raised in Kentucky. I know the impact of heroin and meth and how drugs in general have pretty much overtaken the resources of the state police. They can't keep up with it, can't hire enough cops to minimize the scourge on society there.
And yet they fined you for careless driving, for basically returning "litter" that was dropped in your front yard.
It's no wonder why we're screwed. The cop should've simply given you a warning. But it was needlessly escalated because there's just an enormous lack of common sense and respect these days of things of greater importance. Like I said a few posts earlier, the tending cop who fined you probably drove by at least three known drug houses on his way to patrol your street.
Yet unfortunately for you - you were the easy-picking, low-hanging fruit. I just don't get it....
Nevertheless, glad you've put this behind you. 🙂
