Don't tempt me. A good friend of mine still plays the old Eye 2s and uses them very proficiently. He hits 14 greens per round, but struggles with putting from time to time. He bitches about shooting mid-70's and then at the bar after the round, often says, "if I could only putt half as well as you do..."
If I only had his distance. He's about 10 years older than me but in great shape (he's a chiropractor) and has such a nice rhythmic, fluid swing. Never over-swings. He has effortless power, whereas in the past few years I've developed more of a powerless effort. Flexibility means a lot. Part of that is due to his profession, the other part due to natural talent and flexibility.
But it's interesting that when we play together - his scores aren't that different from mine. But anyway... he hits those old irons great. A couple years ago he was contemplating getting some Mizuno player irons, and I told him he would be crazy to get rid of the Eye 2s.
When your swing is that good - you could play almost anything. He doesn't need more technology. He just needs to work on his putting. He kills it off the tee, averaging 265-270. A lot of times he's hitting LW into the same green whereas I'm hitting 6-iron. Yet our scores aren't all that different at the end of the round, because of his putting.
But I'd love to be able to swing the club the way he does. He has a natural tempo and strikes it great with all of his clubs, except the putter.
