ZWExton Not necessary unless the fit is loose. Should not be a problem with new shaft and head.

Only advice not yet given is to immediately clean any stray epoxy from your hands using solvent. Cured epoxy fingerprints are a bummer.

I think I read where using shafting beads in graphite reduces shaft breakage by 80% so I use them on every graphite shaft. I bought a very small bottle of shafting beads years ago and it is still half full. So why not use them?

I use them as well. Not to split hairs, but the OP's question was "are they at all necessary". IMHO they are only necessary when you have a sloppy fit between shaft and hosel. Just trying to keep it simple for a first-timer.

I have since looked at the small monetary investment coupled with the time investment and the risk of a poor finished product versus the monetary cost of using a professional and will probably go that route. Keeping small business afloat, right? And I don't lose a few hours of my life and end up with a questionable product.

ZWExton I was just being sarcastic...I have to do that here since the wife discourages it at home. Building clubs is a wonderful hobby and if it appeals to you then you should go for it. Just be disciplined with your time and money....unlike I me lol.

I use an excellent local fitter now, but I still tinker and will always have a "backup" set to fool around with.

I too have recently begun building clubs for myself, and a few for others. No better feeling than a job well done, AND going out and shooting a good score with sticks you built yourself. I’m considering investing in a lie/loft machine and a few other club building tools down the road. I love to tinker with my own golf equipment, so why not?

It comes and goes for me. Winter rust is usually the culprit. Two weeks ago I shot an 80, yesterday an 88. In all fairness, my mid-back muscles were knotted up, just never got loose enough to get a full and easy swing.

JeffTilley I'd kill to shoot an 88 these days. Had a golf trip to Tampa area about 2 months ago and shot 94-99 each round. Sadly my chipping and putting were okay, I just couldn't get off the tee or get near the green.
