My buddy who moved to Florida last spring just texted me telling me he tried out a G400 Max demo driver for his round today from his pro shop, and (according to him) gained an average of (give or take) 15 yards on his tee shots.
Had it been anyone else I'd be inclined to discard it as hype. But he's pretty down to earth and a fairly straight shooter, both on the course and in life in general. Maybe there's something there worth looking into.
Having played hundreds of rounds with him over the years, I know his game better than anyone else. Might be something there.
The kicker is it was a stiff shaft and he usually plays regular-flex. He's around 95 mph club head speed. 65 years old. Carrying it 220, rolling out to 245 on normal conditions at the course he plays.
And get this - Steve Flesch was on the range with him yesterday. Golden Bear Club in Orlando. They were the only two guys on the range, and was hoping Steve would catch up with him (as his tee time was right before Steve went out).
He didn't bug him, left him alone. I guess Steve just hopped around the course on what was a slow day to work on his game. But man... he's in a great environment there. Saw Ken Griffey Jr on the range about a month ago, played behind Retief Goosen's group back in the fall.
Talk about living the dream... and he's (allegedly) found a driver that goes 15 yards further than his current driver.
And I'm stuck up here in Northeast PA dealing with sucky-ass weather.....
