Weirfan Every golf fan should have heard of Hogan
Probably true. But non-golfers likely have not. That's part of what makes this special. A non-white kid coming in and absolutely dominating a sport that was historically owned by white guys and changed the face of the game at every level. Made golf at least moderately interesting to the general public who otherwise did not give a crap.
I said before, Hogan could not have had the kind of exposure Tiger does due to the technology of information at the time, but that's the rub. To golf snobs with a hate-boner for Tiger maybe Hogan is the greatest comeback story in golf, but Tiger is bigger than golf to many as Ali was bigger than boxing and Jordan was bigger than basketball - ground-breaking transcendent talents in an Era when their greatness can reach the entire world.
More people probably know who Tiger is than Jackie Robinson. I'm aware of Niki Lauda because of the movie "Rush," and read about him after that, great stuff, but I can't imagine 1/50 people know the name or the story.
