I am switching over to the Ten Finger Grip due to soreness in my hands. I also purchased Wilson
C100 irons with Aldila Rip Phenom senior flex shafts to help ease the stress on my hands. I have heard that Pro-soft inserts do not help much in graphite shafts.
Since I am going to use this style of holding the club would a non-taper or low taper grip work better than a normal taper grip? I am thinking of using Star Tour mid-size low taper grips that also claim to reduce vibrations.
Looking for thoughts or ideas, any experiences?
Ten Finger Grip
I've been using a ten finger grip for ~ 16 years. I recently put the GP MCC Plus 4 (less taper) grips on my driver and fairway woods. They work fine. Go with whatever grip feels the most comfortable. For years I used the GP Dual Durometer which was marketed as being good for arthritic hands.
I used the 10-finger grip for years. I don't know about the grips, but I stopped using golf gloves. I found my hands didn't get as sore.
Eventually I went back to a regular overlap grip (I can't remember why), but I still don't use a glove.
Sneaky,
Does a grip with less taper work better with the ten finger grip?
Also is it definitive that inserts have little effect in graphite shafts?
Opposite of the no gloves above, I have 2 friends who started using Bionic gloves on both hands and we're able to better grip the club without pain.
Your hand condition could be a precursor to arthritis and/or gout.
Had the condition checked out by a specialist with blood test, cure it by medication and diet, you'll be much better off in the near future.
I had issue in my shoulders and hands when I was 53-55, my golf game went to the toilet and I could not understand why. All the abuse to my body from my youth activity like track and field , weight lifting and martial arts had come back with vengeance . My M.D. put me on medication to relieve some of the pain and discomfort and through diet over the years I'm much better than a decade ago.
Not only my golf game improved from then but also quality of life is much better.
I can't say it works better and I found no negative issues with them. The main thing is to help with less grip pressure. They're a nice grip, but expensive.

There's no need for inserts with graphite shafts. The graphite itself dampens vibration as good or better than anything.
