There was a fair amount of buildup to Rymer's senior tour debut last week at Boca Raton. They did a lot with him in the pre-tourney coverage and on the first day too. After that, I didn't notice anything, and no followup stuff on TGC website. Unfortunately for him, he finished dead last, with an 87 on Sunday. Yikes. Maybe he told them to stop talking about it. Anyone seen him give any post-mortem comments?
Charlie Rymer Champ. Tour debut
He has made no excuses, to his credit.
He admits to nerves, lack of confidence and a change in putting methods that he isn;t fully committed to on the course.
He says he's hitting it great on the range and physically feels good, but is feeling it after walking for three days.
He's only scheduled for 3 more events I think, so will have to get it together quickly.
He hits it far for a Champions guy, so he has potential to make a bit of noise on there but it will take some time

I give him credit for owning his game or lack of game.
No, glutes "deactivated or I was actually hitting the ball well and except for holes 6, 9, 11, 14, and 17 I really played solid golf..... BS, etc.
87 ouch
My game is that bad. sign me up to play on the Champions Tour. What does last place get??? I'm sure it wouldn't be a bad weekend's work for a geezer like me...

I'm sure Charlie is an exceptional player, and could probably go low on just about any course with his buddies on the weekend.
But tournament golf is just a completely different level of pressure, and I get the sense that he's been out of competitive tournament golf for so long at that level that it will take him a significant period of time to get used to it again.
He seems like a really good guy and I wish him well, but he wouldn't be the first former pro golfer turned tv analyst who couldn't make the transition back to a more stressful, competitive level.
Shooting 67 with his buddies on the weekend just ain't the same. It's a completely different environment when you're competing against players who've not taken a prolonged hiatus from competition and aren't consumed with the thoughts of just trying to keep it respectful, but actually trying to win.
He probably knew this going in, and just wanted to see if he could perhaps find his niche as a competitive player again.
