Just received this article from Miles of Golf in Ann Arbor, Michigan in my email. Miles of Golf is a golf equipment store/practice range/fitting center that caters to serious players and promotes golf in that area. It's about an hour from my home, but I like to go up there to shop if I'm in the market for equipment.
Anyway, this month's email contained this thoughtful article regarding which tees we should be playing, based on how far we hit the ball with our driver and other clubs. My golfing buddies and I have been grappling with this question as we've gotten older (I'm 72 myself), and we've come to these conclusions: We start on the white tees, BUT.....
1) If a par 4 is longer than 375-380, we move up to the next tee....
2) If a par 3 is longer than 180, we move up to the next tee....
3) If a par 5 is longer than 500, we move up to the next tee....
We find that a course around 5700-5800 yards is a good distance for most of us. We have one (younger) guy who still plays the blues and whites, and he should, as he hits it 250 and sometimes longer.
Anyway, I thought this article would be interesting to some of us on the board who, because of age mostly are becoming distance challenged. As an aside, when we move up on a hole that is 380 from the whites to maybe 325 from the Senior tees, we sometimes tee off with a 3 wood or 5 wood to make the hole still play interesting and challenging. It seems like many courses have not thought out where the senior tees ought to be in order to make it a fair challenge for the senior golfer who still has a decent game. Enjoy.....
