sdandrea1 I'll let that one slide. Without knowing that I'm a federal employee, you couldn't have possibly sensed the sarcasm.
Hawaii missile scare
sdandrea1 You really don't understand sarcasm, huh. No need to get all worked up.
Turns out it wasn't even a federal worker so I guess we're off the hook... this time [note: SARCASM].
I have a work buddy who was in Hawaii for the first time ever with all of his family for a friends wedding.
He texted a group of us from work saying he was woken up by the alert. He didn't get into it on text what they were feeling or what they did, but I will find out tomorrow when we are back to work.
sdandrea1 if they're truly inconsequential, then you and your two buddies wouldn't be hunting them down and replying to them all the time. I'm sorry if you three (and some others here) were born with out a sarcasm detector, but it can be developed if you try really hard.
On the other hand, you could just try not being so thin skinned and letting everything bother you.
Talked to my buddy. His whole family got the notification and figured since they were on an island, where were they going to go?
Instead, they called their one daughter who was in Oregon to let her know where in the house the paperwork was that she would need for insurance and such, to get the house paid for so she could live there forever. They then went to the in-law's hotel room and all spent time together, waiting it out until they got the all-clear. Figuring that if they were going out, they would go out together.
rsvman I read Jordan Spieth's caddie took off toward the other side of the island. Given my knowledge of the island and from past experience, I'd say if you could get a jump on traffic, that might be the safest place to be. If a missile was deliberately launched at Oahu, it would likely be aimed at the Honolulu/Waikiki area. There's a whole mountain range in between there and Kaneohe Bay on the other side of the island. If it was a nuke, you'd still die from radiation, but if it wasn't a nuke you'd stand a chance against the initial blast.
puttnfool - there is large military base (Marine Corp Base Hawaii) that would be a juicy target on the other side of the island. I've been on that base at night during 'take cover' drills with all the lights on base dark. That will get your heart pumping.
If North Korea targeted Hawaii, you're most likely very safe anywhere in Hawaii...
puttnfool The prevailing winds are also pretty consistent, so if you can get to the windward side of the island you might be able to avoid much of the fallout.
Ack8236 Touché...
mikeintopeka Mike, there are bases all over that island. I'd guess if someone was gonna target any specific base, then JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam would be the first to go.
