Well, this discussion and my Ping Eye 2 Sand Wedge find have got me all fired up! When I get back home next week, I'm going to get my set of i5's out and look into reshafting them with something lighter than the stock Ping shafts.
Steve, when you reduce the tip size of a shaft from .370 to .355, do you sand it down by hand, or by machine???
Any special tricks I should know???

I hand taper them by taping off the tip leaving about 5/8" exposed. Just taper that part of the tip as the top half of the hosel is .370. I use a digital caliper to measure, so I sand, rotate, sand, rotate, measure, sand, rotate, sand, rotate, measure, dry fit, etc until the caliper says .355 and it fits the head snug. I sand with a strip about 1/2" wide using the shoe-shine stroke. Clean the hosels real good all the way down and epoxy with glass beads added. When you install the shaft, rotate it as you go in to spread the epoxy evenly, once you have the graphics where you want them, turn it over, and while holding the club by the head, tap the butt end of the shaft on the floor (I hit it 5 times, HARD) to jam that tapered tip down into the head.

If you are removing steel shafts and installing graphite, and you care about swingweight, you might want to butt trim 3/8" to 1/2" longer to get them back to D0, or whatever they were. This will add about 1 degree of upright to your lie angle too.

    We want pics!!!!!

Thanks....they're already Ping stock graphite. I'll be changing from Regular to Senior flex, and lighter weight, so I probably will make the 1/2 inch longer....

It has been awhile since I worked with any Pings. I just pulled the head on a Ping Eye 2 SW. Me thinks the Ping dudes have mixed in the essence of pig shit in with the epoxy. What a burning smell it has. But I was ready for it this time. I pulled my workmate with puller next to a vented paint booth I built that vents outside. As soon as the head came off I stuck the smoking shaft and head into the booth and the smell went outside. Now, to decide graphite or steel. I have some FST 115 steel and Mitsubishi Fubuki graphites in 60 and 75g. Hmmm......

I've only had Rapture V2s and Eye2s In Ping irons. The Rapture shovels were/are my most expensive golf purchase by far and no other irons I've ever tried can displace them for long from the bag except during the hard pan with our Mississippi late summer drought. I want my Mizunos to win out very much, but don't believe that with me being on down side of 72, I'll ever get there consistently with my striking. I'd love to try the 400s too, but then I feel like that way too often about all the new pretties.

I've always liked the looks of the Raptures, Rapture V2's and G10s but never have been able to "pull the trigger" on a purchase. Can those of us who don't own Pings still hang around this site??

Yes, but you might be on probation.😋

Thought I’d annoy Spuzz and bring this one back to the top. I hope Raptures will be my favorite since I just received the ones sold by meagain. It’ll be my first go around with Pings. Just for fun, I’m going to throw my Bang-O-Matic 401 Slupski 12 degree driver in the bag with them and try to get my game improvement on. I don’t know where the ball will end up, but it should make friends with the sky on the way there.

MidwayJ I didn’t mean to take it that far, but he’ll be conforted to know that my Indio will be close at hand should things go wrong.

MidwayJ Excellent! Spuzz was always a rabid fan of Bang drivers, too.

Also a great fan of the Integra Sooolong 450. 🙃

            Only the BOM
I still have a 12 degree shafted with a Fuji Vista Tour 60.
            It's shiny.
