Price point dictates weight. The heavy graphites (95+) are expensive. I can't bring my cheapazz self to spend $30 to $45 per shaft........even tho I have squandered thousands ho-ing.

Hireko has some Power Flex filament wound graphites for $6.95 that are listed at 95 -100g. I tried one years ago and wasn't thrilled with it but I wasn't thrilled with any other iron graphites either. Jeff at Hireko told me the weight was primarily due to a 25% fiberglass component. I have put a few of these into some hybrids for some buds and they have not complained.

I25's with Xcaliber shafts(that I bought from sandrea1 on FGI a few years ago) are my favorite so far. In the past I have tried I15, I10,I15, G15, S59, S58. I liked the G15's with stock TFC but not as much as the I25's. For the upcoming year I will try a set of G's with Xcalibers and the I25's in reserve.

Tested the Matrix Studio 94/ Maltby DBM 7i combo firm flex, soft-stepped once.
Very Impressive. In fact, it they preform the same next time around, I'm going
to be forced to build a set. 😎 I built them 1/2" over, D2.5 sw, spine aligned (not large spine).
I had forgotten how nice the Maltby M05/TE/DBM feel/play - nice high flying, soft landing shots.

Which version of the Matrix shafts did you get ? The 94's had little spine and feel very smooth
for their weight.

Guess you must have purchased the 'firm' flex also. I would suggest that you not follow the
Matrix suggestions for tipping - which is 2.0" for a 7 iron shaft. I did 1.5" and it turned out
just about right for feel. More a reg than a stiff. YMMV....

Anything with that seemingly indestructible tumbled finish and killed leading edge. I wish they made a Ping G with minimal offset! All that offset is just killer IMO, and in a bad way!

Are all Ping irons high offset? I can't image the PGA pros who play Ping use high offset irons, but I could be wrong.

The G25, g30, g and g400 all have less offset than previous g models and less than the older eye, isi, zing, etc.

Rickochet I don’t think the ping g irons have all that much offset. I have the G25s and tthey aren’t bad til you get to the 4-6 irons. At least to the eye test the Gs seem to be less to me. I prefer playing my Gs mostly for that reason and I like the shafts better. I haven’t seen the G400s in person yet but they look nice in the pictures.

PGA guys currently play mostly the S series irons, however, several played Eye 2 and even ZING back in the day. Personally, I've never understood the despise of offset in irons. It helps launch the ball high and straight.
