What Are Your Favorite Ping Irons?

Another question is are the newer Ping irons still taper tip or have some models changed to parallel tip?

I've had three sets of PIngs, and I liked the i5's (the first set I had....and still have in the basement!) the best. Since
then, I have had the G5 and the G30....got rid of both of them. Didn't like the offset of the G5's and the oversized
look of the G30's.

I have since moved on to the Callaway XR's, which seem to suit me much better, and I'm currently putting together
a set of Maltby KE4 Tours. Been playing since I was about 12 years old....60 years or so....and I while I admire the
PIng story, their R & D, attention to detail, and customer service, I guess it's the offset I can't get used to......can't
teach an old dog new tricks, I guess!

Probably have to be my Eye 2 irons since I used them from 1982-2015.

I've played a lot of them going back to the late 80's... original Ping Eye 2's, the newer (early 2000's) Ping i-3's, G5's, G15 i's, G20's, G25's, G30's, and the current Ping G's.

I've found the G30's the best-performing/most forgiving irons I've ever owned, and are currently in my bag, with the latest Ping G's in the backup position in my garage.

For whatever reason - I just find the G30's a bit more confident than I do the later model G series.

All great clubs, however.

I now have i5's in bag here and in my Arizona bag......so would say they be my fav.

I started playing in 1962 and in all that time I have never played PING irons believe it or not. I bought a PING G25 several years ago and that is the only PING anything I have ever owned. When I see all the love for PING on most of the forums I wonder how I ever missed out on them. When I bought my Callaway irons this year PING was my other choice but I had never played Callaway irons either. Perhaps if I live long enough to buy another set I will try a PING iron set.

Beat you by a year. I started in 1961 at the age of 12. It is hard to hit an iron if it doesn't suit your eye even if it is a good performing iron. The older Pings are indeed different and don't visually appeal to some. I recently sent a set of Cally XR OS irons back to Cally preowned because they just didn't suit my "eye."

I've never played any of the Ping products, just a set of Ping forgeries to start with (I think they were called Lion Kings). From afar, I was strangely attracted to those i/3 irons that had the yellow insert in them for some reason. I don't think they were ever very popular, but kind of caught my eye in a way I can't explain why. Never got around to getting any though and then wandered off into forged territory.

For feel, the Eye 2 with ZZ Lite top my list. So solid feeling. For all out forgiveness and straight shooting, stupid EZ to hit, I gotta go with the G10 in graphite, although the G15 and G20 compare. The G25, G30, G, G400 style clubs are all narrower sole, hotter face, stronger lofted sets and I do not prefer them over the G10. For pure beauty, the i200 might be the prettiest iron ever to my eye. I owned i5, i10 and i15 but lacked the striking consistency to get the most out of them. My favorite titanium faced irons are the Rapture V2, mostly because of the cool green and black graphite shafts. Hated the 2014 Karsten irons, not sure why. Hated the isi and ZING for feel and performance, except both those model wedges are very EZ to use. I'm sure I'll think of more.....

I play golf 3 to 5 times per week now, so I think I am done with steel shafts. Current gamers are G10 with TFC graphite.

My soon to be 68 year old hand joints are really starting to ache. I have always played steel and have tried the prosoft inserts but never cared for them. I am going to give graphite another go and have two sets of Mitsubishi Fubuki shafts to try. One set are some Fubuki 75 X4NG A flex pullouts I am going to stick in a set of Eye 2's.

Is there a chart somewhere that shows all the Ping iron model specs that can be compared?

sdandrea1 Your wrists and elbows will thank you for playing graphite. I switched to steel a few years ago and in 2 weeks, I had a roaring case of golf elbow.

Rickochet Yes, I was a late starter, 20 years old. I had a set of blades handed down from my uncle who tore up his knee skiing. I played those until 1982 when some dirt bag stole them out of my garage. Bought a set of Rams and later bought a set of the new Cobra irons in 1993/4, had them of about nine years and then starting building my own sets from components.

Simply Google PING iron specs and you'll get what you need, and I'm pretty sure they are all still .355t

G15's (still have a set). Not as strong lofted as the newer Pings. The G15 6 iron in 29 degrees where the G400 6 iron is 26.5 degrees and you can get the Power Spec Loft option adjusted to 25 degrees.

Like Steve, I am mostly a Ping guy for irons - Over the years since I really started golfing about 10 years ago, I have tried many a set - lets see - i5, g5, isi-K, eye 2, i3 blades, i10, i15,i20,s56,s58,s59 and lastly the s55. Love the s55's and these are my favorite hands down at the moment. Eventually, when the prices come down, I am sure either the iblades or i200 will find a way to me but for now I am quite content with the s55. Honorable mention to the s56 - because these were so good, it prompted me to upgrade to the s55.

Love the I25's.....plenty forgiving and playable from all lies. Not sure why I ever got rid of them.

Over the years have owned and played (some models more than one set): Eye 2, Eye 2+, Zing, Zing 2, iSi in BeCu and BeNi, i3 blades, i3+ blades, and G20. Have a set of Eye 2's and a set of Eye 2+ BeCu in the basement. Currently bagging a set of G-Max graphite in an attempt to slow down the aches and pains of 71 year old joints. So far, the G-Max have been a love/hate relationship. Today, they performed extremely well. Tomorrow......

Favorites are my Eye 2+ BeCu with JZ shafts and my Eye 2's with ZZ Lite.

Currently have the Gs and G25s. Close but my nod goes to the Gs but I’ve played the G5’s the I5s the G10s the G15s oh and the old I3s too. For me I think I played the best with the I5s so that was my favorite. My brother still has my I5s maybe I should ask for them back

bigshank Nothing wrong with having the same set of irons back in your bag a number of times. Shoot! I imagine Steve has bought and sold the same set of Pings so many times the irons recognize him before he recognizes them. The UPS guys can't understand why a package of golf clubs he delivers to Steve's house has the Tom Jones song "Green, Green Grass of Home" being sung from inside the box!!!!😀
