  • What Are Your Favorite Wedges - Component Or OEM?

Rickochet

I had some Raven Nearnet wedges that were a bit on the bigger size.
Maybe you can find some on ebay?

I also liked the DTG Inazone Shadow wedges but they are on the small side for you.
Quality and feel are good on these, along with the spin.
Maybe the newer models are a bigger size?
Those blade length type specs aren't listed on the DTG website though
πŸ™

Rickochet I have those but haven't hit them yet. Big loft gap between W and SW.

Unless you use the SW a lot in full shots from the fairway, you won't notice the gap. I use the W for full shots from 85 - 90 yards and as an all purpose wedge around the green. I use the SW out of greenside bunkers and flops.

Just dug through my parts bin. I found two DTG Felon Rip Groove wedges that I recall hitting pretty well. I also found some GS Snake Eyes Z-9 SW and LW that are huge as well. Might have to give them another go.

Not familiar with those SE wedges but good luck.
Larger size component wedges seem rare these days, so Id hang on to them if you like them.

Felon wedges large too? Just curious.

Spuzz Not familiar with those SE wedges but good luck.

Stainless frames with forged faces and a super attractive CNC insert.

Yep, gone the way of men's above the knee shorts.

        Felon wedges large too?

Not too big for me. I think the 3rd gen is out and one review said whichever gen they had were a bit smaller than the previous. All three are listed on the DTG website as nonconforming because of the grooves but that might be marketing hype as I don't think they spin any more than any others.

The Felons are made of harder steel so not for me.
          Otherwise, no issue here.
The Inazone Shadows definitely spin though.

sdandrea1 Unless you use the SW a lot in full shots from the fairway, you won't notice the gap.

My "money" club is a 54Β° wedge at 100 yards and less. I only use a higher loft in the sand or a get out of jail shot. That loft is good for my sets that have a 50Β° gap wedge. A 52Β° works well for my old school irons sets with 48Β° PW.
A Wishon HM 52Β° bent to 54Β° might be a good fit.

If you find you like the Eye 2 head, the Eye 2+ SW is 53 degrees with a different sole grind.

I do not believe that a wedge has been made, component or OEM, that can make me happy.

Sparky I do not believe that a wedge has been made, component or OEM, that can make me happy.

Yep, the industry has yet to create a wedge that I can't skull, belly, shank or top. πŸ˜‰

I really love my SMT Durometer 56 degree component wedge and won't replace it until it wears out. My other all time favorite wedge is outside of the loft range (a 62 degree Slotline). I have a 52 degree gap wedge (I think it is a Cleveland TA that is either bronze or beryllium copper), but I'm Jekyll and Hyde with it and am about to try and find something else.

Can’t get away from mr TG wedges. Don’t get the new Tille wedge not offering a lob, I use my lob more than anything

sdandrea1 Yep, the industry has yet to create a wedge that I can't skull, belly, shank or top. πŸ˜‰

I have a set of the F3 face forward clones that are supposedly shank proof. I proved that claim inaccurate. πŸ˜›

sdandrea1 they actually came in polished, copper and gun metal. Wish I would have held on to a copper set

Ping iWedge has been a mainstay in my bag. No matter what I tried, I ended up putting them back in. I even sold my original pair at one point, then bought a new pair. I did recently pick up a Cleveland CBX 60 wedge and the Ping iWedge is officially out of the bag. I am now looking to pick up a 56 CBX to replace my 56* iWEdge.

Sneakylong The marketing on them is since 84% of golfers play cavity back irons, why would you play a blade wedge?

                    What a crock of shit!
Decent looking aside from the gay blue on them.

sdandrea1 If you find you like the Eye 2 head, the Eye 2+ SW is 53 degrees with a different sole grind.

I had a set of Eye 2+ years ago. Can't remember why I sold them. Will have another look.

BTW just snagged an Eye 2 LW to fill out my set. πŸ˜‹

And, Spuzz, my set of Eye 2's are black dot, not gayazz blue, so that makes them pretty. 😍

I really like the Maltby M-Series Wedges I am currently playing. I need wedges with not much bounce and the Maltby lines have several bounce options. I am currently gaming a 50 and 54 with a 60 sitting under the Christmas Tree. The 54 is deadly. I had my ACE with this club at 120 yards and a few rounds prior holed out from 100 yards for par on a par 3 after I put a tee shot in the water. Before these I was playing a set of Scratch Wedges that were low bounce. I liked those a lot but I like the Maltby's better.

Its been so long since ive used a component wedge i forget those that were especially good. RL were decent and got play, tried all the Wishons....somso
the Eidelon 60 i kept for quite a while before i gave it away, have some SMT durometers not in use.
In my Arozona bag i have Edels and Pings , here love my Ping eye 2 SW, best wedge ever, so versatile. Macdaddy wedges also great. Built some Maltby tours for my bud who is a low single and he loves them. I might try some myself this year.

I still use my SMT Durometers. I like them, always have. I dropped out of the 'new club rat race' 5 years ago at least. Other than replacing a broken driver (twice πŸ™ƒ) I haven't changed much in my bag since FGI's heyday.

                        • SMT likes this.

Played Eidolon and Reid Lockharts for years. Still have an unused set of Eidolons waiting. Also have sets of Cleveland RTX's (too big for my eye), Wishon PCF's (just OK), Snake Eyes Box Grooves (too big for my eye), Callaway Jaws (too much bounce). Finished the season playing a new set of Vokey SM4's that I re-shafted with UST Proforce Axivcore wedge shafts to match my Adams A7 Pro irons. After some getting used to they performed really well.

                        Sneakylong That tiny blue writing

                        Ya.
Blue sucks, especially that shade. I am sure that blue is popular in Florida though.
                        πŸ˜‰
Plus the marketing spin, the short lengths, high bounce numbers and lack of other specs (shaft, heel toe length, toe height) as well.
                        Otherwise, have at it
                        LOL

                          sdandrea1

                          Blech.
Mizuno is bad for using blue, especially in their woods.
MP33 (black paint) irons were the cat's pajamas though
                          πŸ™‚

                          Spuzz

Sure you didn't have them mixed up with the CBX irons? After all the tiny blue writing on the CBX wedges is real prominent. 😏 Wouldn't be the first time you went off half cocked before having all the facts. πŸ˜‰

I might get a set of those blue wedges just to piss Spuzz off. My G10 irons are blue dot - does that count as gayazz blue? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€

                              See above post
                              LOL

Not enough blue to be gay...azz, just gay.

                                Rickochet
I have a set of Maltby M Series and a set of Vokeys that alternate in and out of my bag. Depends on
my latest success or lack of same with each group. Sometimes I'll just switch out the one that needs
                                a "timeout."

Now my favorites are OMG Tille wedges, but before them I used Alpha Prospecs Black finish for a long time. They flat out worked for me.

I keep finding myself looking more at the Wishon Micro grooves. Checking their website shipping for 3 heads is cheaper than one head. πŸ€“ I haven't ordered anything from them since the change. They have a coupon code window. Has anyone ever seen a sale coupon? Also, does the Wishon stuff ship from a US warehouse of from the UK?

                                  Rickochet
Pretty sure UK shipping only now.
Post a WTB in the Flea Market.
There's some around in dealer's hands here is my guess.

Ok, tried that Vokey 60/04 yesterday. It was windy as hell at first, then calmed down later. Lies around the greens are tighter than a blind man’s bunghole at a weenie roast. I really, really suck chipping and pitching on these lies. The only good shots I hit were when I slightly opened the face. Everything else dug in. Ball forward, ball back, didn’t matter. I brought along my Cleveland 54/10, same thing. I guess I just need to practice til I figure something out.
