The Newer LST's are more forgiving than the first iterations. The G30 for example had too low spin. The G400 LST comes in 10 degrees and you can go up to 11. It’s much more user friendly than you think. It’s not a tour head, don’t be afraid of it. It’s drops a couple hundred RPM of spin, not a lot. And at the 11 degree setting, you get some of the spin back.

It is a slightly smaller head at 440 cc but it also gives you an extra mph or so of clubhead spees being a smaller head.

bogeypro The SFT is the secret weapon as ive said before. The smiles and excitement I see from people I fit who have hit every drive to the right and now are seeing a solid bomb or just a slight right rough fade... it’s exciting for me as well.

The G400 max though... I wouldn’t give that up. I had a guy yesterday come to my fitting with one and wanted the the G425 Max because he didn’t hit the Max far enough. I put him on Trackman and with his less than stellar swing he was carrying it almost 250 and rolling out to 270. I said to him, that’s pretty perfect... spin, launch, efficiency,decent angle, height.... you’re not gonna hit anything better but here you go. He hit the G425 ...5 shots, none as good as any of the Max shots. I told him they skipped a g410 max because they couldn’t max the max any better. Now it’s "better" with the heavier movable weight, shorter weight track, slight increase in moi... but I haven’t found anyone, myself included, that hits the new one better than the OG G400max.

Thanks for your input, appreciate it. I'm looking for forgiveness and any help I can get with draw bias. The G400 MAX has helped turn my hard fade (snicker snicker) into a fade I can work with so I think the G400 SFT would be what I'm looking for. The MAX isn't really any longer (at my swing speed) than a 919 or Fly-Z but it does seem to have a positive effect on accuracy. I am so so SO tired of playing recovery shots from the right rough or from the adjacent fairway.

I think on the G400 line of drivers the small plus and minus are .6 degrees if I remember correctly. Also, as far as the LST model goes, you will lose some forgiveness because of the more forward weight.

The Max has the most forgiveness of the G400 line that was close to 10,000 MOI. The SFT because of the heel weighting was still above 9000 MOI. The LST would have the lowest MOI.

If you suffer from a hook then you may benefit from the G425 MAX more because you can move the 26 gram weight toward the toe and put the setting at the big minus to get the maximum fade bias.

Sneakylong That's what I'm thinking. Somebody on WRX said the G400 Max is slightly draw biased but the G425 Max is slightly fade biased, but also has the moveable weight as you said so that should help. The LST supposedly sits 1* open at neutral and the Max is square. From what I'm reading I won't be able to get one for weeks due to product scarcity.
Just as an aside, what kind of MOI are they measuring to get 10,000 etc? Is it the same as the MOI Nike was touting with the old square Sasquatch that was the first to get 5000 MOI? Hard to believe they've doubled the forgiveness of those drivers. I have an old Wishon 949MC that I remember tested at like 4800 MOI back then and I thought that thing was very forgiving.
If these are the same MOI #'s I don't think I'd have any problem with an LST forgiveness wise, but wonder if the low spin would cost me distance?

Yup, they can't keep up with the demand. I'm still waiting for my G425 SFT with the Orange Tensei that was ordered March 5th. Golf has exploded with the pandemic. John Solheim the CEO was working a shift assembling clubs for awhile I read.

I'm not suggesting they're fudging the numbers but I remember reading somewhere there are two different MOI's they use, can't remember now but I think the original one where 5000 was off the charts is no longer in use.

Yup it’s the shaft that’s holding it up. Depending on the flex believe it or not some waits are up to 12 weeks. Problem is the shaft companies are unable to get the materials to make the shafts.

Im actually having demos and fittings cancelled because of the long lead times. I can’t sell what you can’t get.

That's where the two MOI measurements come in. They're using a different way to measure MOI than the "old" way that got heads to 5000MOI.

Edit: Found it, that 10,000 MOI is a combination of side to side and up and down MOI measurements:
Ping say that their G400 Max driver has a combined (heel-to-toe, top-to-bottom) MOI of 9,902 g/cm² – the highest on the market at the time of its release.

There are actually multiple "moments of inertia" that can be measured on a golf club. But the one that companies tout in advertising and that golfers read about in golf magazines and websites has to do with the clubhead, its center of gravity location, and a vertical line we can imagine running through that CG location.

Yeah I hear ya. But like @garyt1957 said they combine the horizontal and vertical to get the close to 10,000 moi number. Which makes sense because we miss it high / low and heel / toe. Ping does seem to have the most forgiving drivers.

Yeah, I have no problem if they'll just be honest. The last time Edwin Watts talked to Ping they were told 2 to 4 weeks. I was told that by Ping 6 weeks ago.

I understand the raw material shortages. My wife is experiencing the same with her company. Just be honest. If you don't have a certain date just say we don't really know.

My G400 SFT performs fine for me. I'm almost tempted to tell them just send me the head. I have several shafts laying around. Then just send me the Orange Tensei when it comes in. I doubt they'd do that though.

So I got out today and dug out an old Wishon 949MC driver head I had. I've always read that head is fade biased and my head was 1* open also. Put in an Aldila Gamer stiff shaft and off I went.

Surprisingly, it worked great. Did not hit a single draw. Maybe one straight shot and the rest a small fade. A couple that I started right then faded right putting me in the right rough. But once I realized I could count on the fade I just aimed more left (which is normally very scary for me) and let it come back to center.

The only problem is that I changed 3 things, the head, went from R to S shaft and a slightly larger grip. I'm quite sure it was mostly the head, though. I really think a G425 Max or maybe a G425LST or Cally Max LS would work well and probably give me a few more yards then the 2004ish era Wishon.

I need to get out and demo a 425 Max.

I agree it's subterfuge. They (the oem's) no doubt meet the USGA limit and adding the two together just sounds better. I just knew it couldn't be the same number as the USGA limit (which I didn't know was still 6000) simply because there's no way today's heads are twice as forgiving as the earlier heads that hit 5000 MOI.

Sneakylong It would be nice if they separated the two MOI ratings into the vertical and horizontal numbers so you could compare it to older drivers. But like I said it's likely subterfuge. They don't want you to know the vertical Moi is only 200 or so degrees better than a 2007 Nike Sumo. I remember Tom Wishon saying there had to be at least a 500 degree difference for you to even notice. Is MOI measured in degrees? Well, you get my point.
Just another fun fact, I remember when the Nike Sumo came out in 2007 it was the first time anyone ever talked about MOI measurements and their's was off the charts at 5000. Tim Hewitt of MyOstrich Golf measured all the hot heads at the time and the Wishon MC949 was at 4700 without going to the square design. The 455DB was 3900. That's the only ones I remember off hand. Another reason it's a shame we lost the FGI archives.

That being said I’m having demos and fittings cancelled due to lead times. G425 and 710 irons are 6 weeks while i210 is 8 weeks.

Just talked to Edwin Watts and Ping told them 4 weeks on the Orange Tensei AV Raw. Also, called Ping myself and he told me the middle of June is what they've been told. But he said that he has been told previous dates before (as have I) and they turned out to be wrong.

He did say I could switch it out for an Orange Tensei CK which they have in stock. They don't carry the 55, but have the 60 gram. He did say also that the Orange Tensei shafts are ''made for" Ping. Not the aftermarket one.

That's why you see them in stock at the Golfworks for example. And he did say they lost a ton of stuff when the cargo containers went overboard.

Edit: Changed the order to the Orange Tensei CK 60 R flex. Buddy has that in his G410 driver and it looks to be very similar. Ping guy said because of my March 5th order date I would jump to the front of the line.

Hopefully this fiasco is about to end. lol Also he said the clubs with Arccos are built 1/4" longer. Not so sure about that. Said because I ordered without Arccos it would be built to 45 1/4 inches which I requested. I have a GP MCC Plus 4 ready to go on it.

I was just reading an article on the Cally Epic Max LS and it was stated the vertical MOI is in the high 4000's which is about the same as a 2007 Wishon 949MC. Of course the Max LS is not Cally's most forgiving driver so other models will be better, but not likely much.
