I must confess, I had never thought of the entry level golf balls for decades. Perhaps when I first started playing golf and typically lose several golf balls per round I had bought the TopFlite golf balls and liked it.
Been back and forth with Bridgestone B330 and several other premium golf balls over the years, alway searching for another golf ball that is balanced between the distance and the performance.
Last week, I played a round and halfway through picked up a Nike PD distance with the red swoosh logo. It looked mint so I put it in the bag. Next hole I lost my tee shot to the next fairway and there were hazards between the 2 holes so I decided to pick it up when we get to it. Happen to pull this Nike PD Distance out of the bag ... what the hack, I drop it to play my third from the entry point to the hazards. Playing condition was fine, temperature in the mid 50° F and a little breeze. Greens are firm but receptive.
I was surprised at the soft feel of this "entry level" golf ball by NIke. More a boring ball flight than the other Winter soft compression golf balls I had used. It was long for the condition. Did not run off the green with the approach shot and did not jump off my putter's face like some of the other soft compression golf balls.
I actually played this golf ball all the way through for the remaining of the back nine.
I like it so much that I searched for the golf ball on pricing that evening. Not entirely cheap, ranging from $15 to $25 per dozen plus shipping. The next day I happened by our local golf stores, one did not have this model only the RZN and the second store has a few boxes at $14.95 + tax.
I have quite a few dozens at home of different brands but I ended up picking up one dozen for this Winter.
I thought I would be using the Titleist NXT Tour or the Wilson DUO for the colder weather. Guess not.
