Par4QC Good grief, that's some serious distance at 45.5". I'm not sure I have ever been that long off the tee with a regular driver. That said, I play a lot of crap courses that get next to no roll, so some of that can be a factor. I remember you talking about him a lot back on FGI, glad to hear he is still playing and by the sounds of it, at a high level!
Geek LD driver back in the bag for tomorrow muwahahahaha
Love the plan, FrankenDriver! We want pics and details!
LBlack14 Would have to be a vid. Anyone could toss a ball on the green and say they drove it, with only a pic for proof. We'll do some vids next time out. I think he's ready for the Hammer Open.
His scores are coming down to the point I'm hard pressed to beat him from the Sr. tees, if I can. Lil bastage.
sdandrea1 I'll have to take some pictures of the clubs. I caught one really good one today that gave me 370ish off the tee and stayed right where I intended, hit a wedge to about 8 ft and we all missed the damn eagle putt, which would have been a skin. I hit a lot of long ones, but control was an issue. I left quite a few right where I aimed, which was to the right as I was anticipating a draw.
Overall, I lost the LD contest bc I went off fairway. We didn't win a skin because we can't putt. Lunch was a hot dog. I carried the water, but still put myself in jail on the hole.... so as goals go, ehh not so good.
We did have a good time and even managed to do something I didn't know was possible. I hit a 320yrd drive into the fairway, leaving 188 (up hill) into a par 5, looking good! Then all hell broke loose, I flubbed a 5 iron, everybody else sprayed shots all over the place. So we end up with a "best" shot from 100 yards in the rough. I hit under the ball and move it a solid 45 yards into a bunker... which was the best we got. I hit the next shot into another bunker, luckily someone else barely made it out of the first bunker and stayed in the rough. Another mediocre pitch got us to a 25 ft putt, which we 2 putted. So we pulled off a double bogey in a scramble with a good drive to start off. That took some special effort to be that bad. 3 bogeys and a double, but we still managed to get to -1 with a birdie at the last hole. I needed some help in the worst way if we were going to score, but it wasn't to be.
Btw, the Adams pro hybrids were spot on awesome, I'm hoping they continue to perform as well as they did today when I got a chance to use them. I sure wouldn't mind a higher loft one to eliminate the 5 iron if I could.
Jesus Christ DC...370...nice.
320 uphill...nice...then 8 shots to traverse the final 100 yards!
Typhoon This is why my handicap always said I was much worse than people thought I was. There is ALWAYS a blow up hole, it's not if, it's when. Today happened to be at the same time everyone else was having one. It really didn't work out well. I think had we played the ball I wanted to on that par 5, we would have made par, but I went with the crowd and suffered for it.
When I play again, I'm going to put those hybrids to work off the tee, I'm interested to see if I can actually still play golf for score or if I'm completely washed up haha.
Unless it's free, who the fuck pays to hit hybrid off the tee???
LBlack14 That's what I'm saying! I don't really enjoy playing small ball even when I know it's my best shot to score. I know my problem is course management, but I don't particularly care.
I played a round with the club pro a few years back at the course I used to play all through college, just by having him tell me what to hit off the tee, I dropped a 39 on a course that had eaten me alive most of the time (averaged about a 44 on this track, it's a 9 hole course) and it's not as if I was on fire by any means. The problem is it was one of those courses where the first 4 holes are best played with a 200-250 yard, placed, tee shot. 5th is a murderous (for me) par 3, 6th is another hole that requires a fade and controlled distance, neither of which I'm good at, the 7th and 8th are bomb it holes and the 9th is another tricky par 3. Now that I lay it out there, I don't know why I like that course at all...
The first hole was rated in one of the major golf magazines as one of the top (10 I think?) hardest starting holes in the state. It's a miserable sumbitch. Par 5, dog leg left, ponds right, river and massive trees left, a drainage ditch in the prime landing area that narrows the landing area to about 25 yards, can play almost 600 yards from the tips, no real good angle into the green until about 175 yards from the green, so reaching in two is not only risky, but damn near impossible. I have played there not less than 100 times and I don't think I have been on in two more that 2 times. I consider, EVERY par 5 reachable, but I don't even bother trying anymore. It's not just the distance it's the punishment for missing.
From the back the course stretches out to 6900 yards and the greens are some of the toughest putting I have ever encountered. They let the vegetation grow up around the course to toughen it up more, but had to cut it down because the USGA re rated the slope to just under Oak Hill in difficulty. It was brutal for the average hack, which makes up a lot of the business because they charge about $20 for 9 with a cart. Well, I'm rambling. Point of story, I don't like having to over think a course, in there for fun, not work.
Not sure I've ever had a double bogey in a scramble. Things can go sideways, I guess.
