From what I read, Earl was a part of the debauchery. I also read that those 2 weren't on speaking terms until not too long before his death.

Earl was the role model

Rickochet

The truth is never as simple as it looks sometimes. While I don't think Earl was exactly a perfect role model for his son, I also know that we're only allowed a very small window to look through regarding Tiger's life, and outside of the scandal - we really don't have much of a perspective of how he lives off the course.

I do think however that the scandal revealed a few things.

He obviously led a different life when he wasn't home. He showed no interest in coming clean when the initial allegation hit the airwaves with the first mistress, and when it became obvious that all of these other women he bedded saw an opportunity to make some serious money in tell-all interviews following that - he was left with no other choice but to admit it and deal with the consequences.

That different life he led, imo, wasn't public knowledge to his closest friends, or at least his true friends. Looking back on it now, I have no issues believing what Steve Williams said when he claimed that he had no idea. A lot of people in his inner circle had no idea. Which brings up the second point - Tiger's inner circle wasn't nearly as big as some initially believed. And even those considered to be inside his circle were relationships maintained at a guarded, commercial existence; they were there to serve a purpose for his career more than anything else, which is why a lot of his alleged "close friends" were genuinely shocked to hear the reports coming out on the news about the scandal.

Then with what we learned via Hank Haney, about Tiger's obsession with Navy Seal training... about the weekends spent at the navy seal center in California, training with one of the teams... training with the Special Forces unit in NC, doing live-fire exercises... the skydiving, the deep-sea diver training with certified military trainers, his several-mile runs around his gated neighborhood with military rucksack on his back in combat boots, and all of those times Hank said that he would come by only to see Tiger playing military-action themed video games in his den. Do I think Hank made that stuff up? No way.

And that last revelation, imo, better describes Woods' obsession with high-risk activities when he felt bored, whether it was trying to win a golf tournament by 12 strokes, or seeing how many women he could bed, without getting caught, when he wasn't home with his wife and kids.

Don't misunderstand - these are not excuses. He acted like an ass on the course sometimes, acted like he was entitled and that the fans were little more than nuisances who distracted him while he was playing. He was a major league douchebag for destroying his marriage the way he did. And I do think that he resented getting caught and being humiliated more than he genuinely regretted the various occasions he was unfaithful to his wife.

Tiger has always had an enormous degree of narcism, which has probably morphed to a clinical level. Which, mind you, means that he isn't prone to admitting mistakes, and perhaps (but hopefully not!) means that if he is dealing with a prescription-drug dependency - it will be difficult for him to admit it and get help.

And that's why I think he might have more serious problems on his plate than his image now.

Mugshots never look good, but that mugshot (to me) spoke volumes about where his life is at the moment. With two little kids especially - I find it very sad.

Does anyone think he'll be appearing on TV screens in the next 72 hours to confess to an "alcohol addiction related issue". He can't even invoke "the lord" like Cink did (please correct me if I'm wrong but did he not go through very similar problems many years ago before being "saved"). Though I suppose he could convert, though exactly how a further lurch away from reality would help, I'm not sure,

As has been the norm since the days of FGI, the damn's come out in full force.
Yeah, "wow" what an outfit Eldrick is wearing in his mug shot - not that his apparel might have been confiscated. What do your pajamas look like?
We all know Eldrick so well - a monumental public figure, so tragic... I wonder how many of you know your best friends and spouses in their private moments. We know what the media has provided us.
That being the case, can we reserve judgment until we have more information?

Regarding the 'war games', it seems to me that a geeky little kid-prodigy, getting his public start on the Johnny Carson show, the son of a lieutenant colonel, might just want to prove that he's as tough as he thought his dad was. I'll reserve my more critical speculation for others after I've judged myself in kind.

Hard to believe what really happened anymore,Tiger certainly has some credibility issues these days. 😉
As far as Earl goes, without his dad's constant pushing and prodding to be the best, there probably wouldn't
be a Tiger Woods the 14 time major winner....maybe he wouldn't have even played golf.

Here's a pretty good read (long) about their relationship and other insights:

    Spuzz

And when my back is hurting , pop a whack of pills and decide to jump in my car and take a ride .

Tiger is, has been and always will be a lying douchebag !!

darpar maybe he wouldn't have even played golf.

Then the world would have been able to marvel at his Navy Seal career instead.
      😉

Weirfan pop a whack of pills and decide to jump in my car and take a ride

That helps me (and babies) fall sleep, so I can see why he'd be out driving.

Good job by Tiger's handlers doing damage control.

sounds like no alcohol involved so that's some good news. No alcohol DUI charge

Is a Good outcome for tiger

Update , haven't seen it but Affidavit says he was asleep at the wheel, didn't know where he was and bombed the field sobriety test.

      More coming out

Tiger Woods was asleep at the wheel in a stopped car at 2:03 AM -- about 8 miles from his house -- when cops came upon him before his arrest, and he was completely out of it.
According to the police report, Woods was in his 2015 Mercedes asleep at the wheel with the motor running and right blinker flashing. The report says Woods "had extremely slow and slurred speech."
He told cops he was "coming from L.A. California from golfing." He then changed his story and said he didn't know where he was.

Was taken into custody and approximately 3 hours later he took a breathalizer test and blew 0's.

I've no problem believing it wasn't alcohol-related.. in fact I hinted in my very first post that it probably wasn't. I also have no problem with considering that he might have an issue, with a history of back injuries/surgeries especially, being reliant on prescription pain medication to manage life.

It might explain why he was pulled over and booked. Nevertheless, it doesn't excuse it. Having lost 2 close friends in my life to other drivers who were driving impaired on two separate occasions, I personally find it impossible to believe that he wasn't made aware of the risks, be it on the medication bottles, or his personal physicians, or both - that he shouldn't be operating a motorized vehicle while using those medications.

People who want to excuse his lack of judgement have obviously never dealt with tragedy on that level. I don't care how much pain one might be in - it doesn't justify risking someone else's life, and it shouldn't be necessarily glossed over as simply a one-off error in judgement. A majority of people who've been convicted of DUI had a history of driving under the influence for a period prior... they'd just never been busted for it. Why should I think a sports celebrity isn't any different?

Dude has some serious emotional baggage, a fair degree of narcism, and a chronic back problem that requires prescription-level pain medication maintenance.

That's usually not a good combination.

        PA-PLAYA

It's not a stretch to think he's got a problem with prescription pain medication. Passed out in your car with the motor running and not knowing where you are at 3:00 AM in the morning says there's something very serious going on. Luckily no one was hurt and hopefully he gets the help that he obviously needs. Just because there was no alcohol involved doesn't make what happened any less serious.

        Judge much Weirfan?

        From CNN:
"Jupiter, Florida, police discovered Woods early Monday on the side of the road, with his 2015 Mercedes-Benz running, its brake lights illuminated and right turn signal flashing, according to the arrest report released Tuesday. He was by himself and wearing his seat belt....
Woods took a Breathalyzer test, registering a 0.000 on it, and a urine test, the report said. The report also noted that Woods was cooperative."
Guess it's not possible that he found himself feeling less than safe, pulled off the road, using his turn signal, passed out, and remained there? Nah, not a chance! The man is far too successful and filthy stinking rich to an honest error or lapse in judgment occur.

        Gotcha!

Personally, I know Tiger, so well that I can conclusively support his innocence (oops, guilt).

          professor

just providing what was being reported initially , stories change , especially with celebrities.
you can continue to ride his hog but he's not been totally honest in the past so for now will not give him the benefit until more info comes out .

He said he was playing in a golf tourney in California , really ? and driving all the way home from CA to Florida ? Really, with a bad back and stoned out of his mind ?

Driving drunk or driving completely wasted is still wrong. There is obviously way more than to this story than us being told. But you mushrooms can stay in the dark and eat the shit he's feeding you as he hasn't been all that truthful about things before.

Tigers lawyers have reportedly been feverishly trying to get the body cam of the officer must be something that they don't want seen ?

Assuming they did a blood draw at the hospital with a warrant if he didn't consent to it.....that could take a little time to know what was in his system, if anything....but it seems reasonable to suspect it to be the case.

It can happen to the best of us and I see no reason to think he's public enemy no. 1 after a DUI. If he weren't TW, it wouldn't even be a news story.

            ode

I haven't read anything that says he went to hospital or that a blood sample was taken . He was totally whacked out on drugs and made a decision to drive, this could have turned out much worse. He could have killed somebody or himself.

As to your second point, of course , celebs are always better news. Like with Chris Cornell's suicide, there are lots of people who take their lives daily, but when a celeb dies, gets in trouble it's considered more newsworthy. In Tigers case it has particular interest as its another cog in the wheel of his continued downward spiral since 2009.

            • ode replied to this.

Let's be honest. Robert Allenby gets in trouble on a few notable occasions - it makes the news. People talk about it, it's fair game. Same with the number of times that John Daly has run afoul in his personal life. As was the situation with Matt Every several years ago with him getting suspended because of his recreational drug use, or more recently with Dustin Johnson and his substance abuse issues and (unofficial) suspension.

As a sports celebrity... If you push your wife around in a drunken fit of rage and destroy a hotel room in the process and the local authorities intervene - it's gonna be a topic. If you get busted for recreational drug use in a hotel while preparing for an upcoming tournament - it's gonna make headlines. If you party in the wee hours of the night, drunk off your ass, get into a tussle with some people you've offended and then concoct a story that you were drugged and mugged? LOL... or you fabricate a story about an injury, but come to find out that you were informally suspended from playing golf for several months because of a serious drug problem... or if you cheat on your wife with dozens of porn stars, hookers and waitresses and someone finds out... or if you get behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence of any substance that impairs judgement and literally pass out in the middle of the road and get arrested - it's gonna make the headlines. People are going to talk about it. People are going to express opinions. And those opinions might be completely contrary to yours, and you are more than entitled to disagree.

This is a sports-themed forum. To hear that a well-known golfer exercised extremely poor judgement, was arrested for breaking the law and see a very troubling mugshot pasted all over the interwebs, and then read some critical commentary by the forum members - lets just assume that it should be more than expected.

It would be no different were it Spieth or McIlroy. In fact, it might actually be more sensational if it were one of those two, since these guys are still very much relevant in the game and now moving the interest needle.

For all intents and purposes, Tiger is a has-been.
