My " swing " is dictating cavity back irons. I experimented with Mizuno MP32 blades and to me, they are drop dead beautiful eye candy. Nothing else I've ever hit has been like them with a good swing into the sweet spot . I'd shoot 110+ if I tried to game them though, I guess. I did pick up a set of MP57 CB irons on ebay that I love too, but wonder if I'll ever have good enough game for them. When get to I feeling lucky again, and arthritis is hiding , I'll give them a go or two. "Hope springs eternal "

You know, if I could have found a decent cavity back iron with very low offset that was soft enough (probably one piece forged) to bend 3° upright, then I might have gone that way. As it stands, I'm not too bad off. I have a CB in the 6i and the 7-PW are blades. I kinda wish I had a CB in the 7i sometimes, but I honestly don't think I've ever wished to myself for a CB in the 8i. At least not while playing this set.

Maybe if they ever wear out, I might build me a new set of CBs. I do have a set of Dynacraft PC3 heads in 3° upright that I could build. I don't think I had them when I built the Wishon set though.

Congrats Puttnfool. Here's my take. Having the wife and kids prevented you from contaminating your brain with over analysis. Golf's a long game and trying to stay focused over the course of 18 holes - focused on golf - be it mechanics or management (please, not score) well that's too much for anybody including Ben Hogan.

Next off, lose that 60 degree wedge. Right after a 3 wood (off the deck) a 60 degree wedge in the wrong hands is nothing but trouble. Like Harvey Pencick said, 'if one aspirin helps, that don't mean take the whole bottle'. Yes, we tend too hit our wedges best but, a 60 is too much of a good thing.

professor I hear ya, professor. I guess I should have briefed them in the pre-round get together to not talk to me about how I was playing.

As far as the LW, it ain't going nowhere. I actually hit it fairly well simply because I don't try to overpower it. I rarely hit it on full shots, but it's very valuable around the greens. I can't recall the last time I skulled it in a round. That being said, I now am bound for the obligatory 3 to 4 skulled LW shots in my next round.

I just like look/feel of forged chrome plated one piece head and steel shaft. It has a classic esthetic appeal to my eye. Probably too demanding and tough on my old man joints-tendons but the desire is still strong.

Triad II, actually. Love this thing. I've got one 100g and two 50g weights in it as well as a butt weight that I can't remember how much it weighs... somewhere around 50-60g, I think. I have a 100g butt weight coming to replace it and I have considered buying two more 100g weights for the head. The Fatso grip is heavier than normal, too.

All in all, this thing weights nearly 2 lbs now. It's a beast, but that's good because it's almost impossible to yip and keeping your line on the short 3-5' putts is stupid easy.

I wanted to ask about that putter when I saw the pictures . It looks like it has serious heft. Never seen one in real life but I'll look out for one now for it is interesting to a mallet player .

Played Sr. Tees today with good luck, 12 over! Shot 3 over on front with 16 putts , 6 fairways , 4 pars, one birdy. Deteriated to shoot 9 over on back side, 16 putts, but only 4 fw, two pars. No 3 putts today! On back 9, I lost focus and got hot, back was tightening, no good drives, irons were fair. Still playing my old graphite fat shaft Wilson Deep Red Distance II irons. Almost gave in on 14 and quit for day, thunder was threatening . Took short clubhouse break and went back to 14 when storm lessened.
I've never had a better round, particularly the first nine. Hope I can repeat??
Only made 4 GIR, really poor, but most approach misses were near misses and a few decent chips got me into good putting position . Even had three chips to lip out , hit flag , near hole outs.

So odd I'd get in a great round on my 72nd b day especially since I shot 108 last time out on same course. God must have just smiled to me.
What a "funny" game, a bit like life, the sun shines some or there's cloudy times.

Back on subject , thinking back, short game, putting & chipping was source of my better score. I've got new favorite iron , my gap club is now a Ping Eye 2+ W @48.5. Never used a gap wedge before but seems to be helpful and easier to use , more effective for me than my L wedge 60 for chipping close from just off the greens, Thx Prof .

Well... after not playing for over the past 10 days, I played in a better-ball tournament today and somehow managed 76, despite only hitting 8 greens in regulation.

My team played as good or better... we shot 17-under net, which was 3 shots better than the next-best score.

The format was "3-Jacks-and-a-Jill" - which is a team comprised of three males and a female. Best-ball format, with the following conditions: one of the four best individual scores counted on the par-5's. Two of the four best individual scores counted on the par-4's. And three of the four best individual scores counted on the par3's.

I actually felt like I contributed today. It was nice to grind out a good score to help out the team. But I would also be remiss to not give credit where credit is due - the lady we played with shot 84 on her on ball today. She was definitely the difference-maker.

Nice to finally put together a decent round! And my first tournament win (team win) this season! 🙂

Couldn't imagine not having my gap wedge, it's undoubtedly the most-used iron in my bag.

I have a 4-wedge setup... PW, GW, 54º and 58º. That configuration works out pretty well for me. I only use the 58º if I've got little room to work with just off the green, and most always use it for green-side bunker shots. Some of our bunkers are fairly deep and the added loft really helps.
