UNC gave up the largest lead in first-round history. They also hold the record for largest lead lost in the championship game, against Kansas in 2022. 19 points today. I think it was 17 in the title game, but it may have also been 19. At one point in their game against VCU today, computer stats gave them a 99.1% chance of winning. Oh, and they are also the only preseason number one team to miss the tournament.
And Coach Davis has accomplished all that in five short years. They are calling for his head in Chapel Hill. Can't believe they took a five-second count turnover in the last minute of regulation while they were sitting on a time out. That has to be near the nadir of coaching acumen.
Coincidentally, VCU also took Duke out in the first round back in 2007. Kryptonite for Tobacco Road power teams, I guess.
Duke played like crap but escaped. They are really missing their starting center and their starting point guard. But they should still have won this game handily. Prolly learned not to take any game for granted. If they didn't, they will have trouble on Saturday against TCU.
