Quick question about tvs

Anybody here an expert in tvs? In our family room there is a recessed hole for the tv, with doors that close over it. The house was built in 2000, before the advent of large tvs. The biggest tv it can hold is a 50-inch.

We have a TCL in there now, and it has worked fine, but lately it keeps overheating. We tried cleaning out its vents very carefully, but it didn't change a thing. It's probably about 9 years old now, so I think it might be an internal problem.

So I would like to get a new tv, but I don't want to spend the money for an OLED. We were looking at a Samsung and an LG. Anybody have an idea which would be better? Or other ideas for a 50-inch that wouldn't cost more than maybe $400-500?

I will get either one of those when 15 year old Sharp dies. My brother in law just got a 55 inch LG that I like. He did get a Sonos sound bar for it too.

Costco has many in that price range. Timing is important though. Holiday Sales Rule.

I have used Vizio for years without issue. Bought a 55" from Costco for $400 a couple years ago.

YouTube TV is what we use. Dropped AT&T because of service and prices.

Personally, I like Samsung. I have both an LG and Sam and they are both great tvs.
TCL are very good too. I would look at them again. 9 year old TV doesn't owe you anything.

Samsung are good TVs. I have had 3 recently. My Dad had an LG and no problems. I'd go Samsung

Samsung. We have 5. Have two on cable boxes and 3 that stream. Samsung is the only brand that comes with the Spectrum App (our cable / internet / mobile) already installed for easy setup.

Samsung has very good technical support as well. They make excellent TVs. Our living room TV has full array lighting while the other 4 cheaper ones are edge lit.

Sony or Samsung are my go to tv's

I understand that HiSense make inexpensive decent tv's .
Costco with their 2x warranty would make sense

TV's are dirt cheap these days and on average last 5-8 years so dont need to blow your wad

Very true. We had a 50" Sharp that lasted 17 years with no issues until it just died. Replaced it in 2022 with a 65" Hisense that recently seems to have gotten buggy. It just locks up every so often and I have to unplug it as the remote won't turn it off. We have cheap TCL tv's in other rooms with no issues, but they don't get used much.

Can’t go wrong with Samsung. We have a couple. Walmart prices are great too.

Same here but my wife, who has an implant in one ear, complains about the soundbar. So we have to use the TV sound instead🙄. A nice soundbar and subwoofer just sit there now. She still thinks I hook it up behind her back because she’ll complain about the subwoofer. And I have to tell her it hasn’t been on for years now.

Typhoon i got 20 grand worth of stereo equipment hooked up to a tv that is never turned on...... going deaf blows. I can't listen to anything through the external mics. If it isn't streamed straight through to go around the filters i can't hear it. Heck most days i just watch with the subtitles on and take my aids out.

We have 2 LG's, a 55" and a 65". We like them both and they have a great picture. Now, if we could just get a TV Cable Company that we like. I thought we had one until they did a "fabulous upgrade."

I think my son has that or another like it. I've been tempted. The biggest reason for holding off is that I
like the lineup of channels my local provider has for me. If they'd just get better at keeping it working
for me I'd be happy but it's down so often it drives me crazy. Of course they play the game at least half
the time I call that it's not their equipment that's not working, it's mine. My modem is brand new. I
installed it when they did the "upgrade" and bought what they told me to buy.

At 1 point in time, Holiday Inn made us go with Hisense. TVs & iirc, coffemakers, room fridges, and some other items. All garbage. Almost every TV did the same thing you describe, and it was within a very short time after installing. Other items simply quit within weeks. Nothing lasted as much as 1 year, and it was not like they were in use daily.
I've always talked against the brand.

I will say some items are 'made for' hotels though. But I still would never buy that brand at any price.

Par4QC I had never had Hisense previously, but had heard good things and the price was right. Picture is decent IMO, but not spectacular. Worked perfectly for a little over 2 years.

I have to say that 2 years in our living room is being on 24/7 many days. My wife is home most days and just doesn't shut it off and will sleep in the chair with it on all night. It's probably gone 72 hours straight many times in the last 3+ years. The old Sharp tv did not have to endure marathon sessions.....also the Sharp cost 5-6X the Hisense.

KCee I had never had Hisense previously, but had heard good things and the price was right.

I've heard Costco's 100 inch HiSense tv experiment has gotten crazy good reviews on the quality of the tv and the price. 100" tv for that price, yeah. But people are saying the tv itself is really good.

Unfortunately I have no place to put one.
