Where are you halfway down? Is the shaft in the so called slot? Backswing doesn’t tell you a lot. Like was posted Jim Furyk loops his backswing upright, but shallows out in the downswing.
Bottom line is do you hit it solid and is the ball fight relatively straight or a predictable / playable curve.
Here’s Furyk below with the shaft parallel with his right forearm arm aka shallowing out. That position or as close as you can to it is the key to hitting it solid.
Many Pros try to get (feel) their hands in their front right pocket (like Furyk here). Moe Norman and Ben Hogan felt like they were trying to put their hands in their back right pocket. Harry Vardon felt like he was trying to hit his right heel in the downswing.
I had my own feel for shallowing, but was forced to take a 7 month hiatus. Unfortunately in golf feelings are fleeting as we know. lol
