Had a 7W as far back as FGI, it was a MacG NVG2 7W. It had an awesome sole design for my swing. (Steep/Negative AOA) Should have kept that club. I love them because of my swing flaw. They launched high and landed softly. Minimal turf interaction because of the sole. See many pros gravitating to 7Ws these days.
I think when you find a shaft that works for your swing, old or not, keep playing it until it stops working. I still have some SKF TT80s in my TM M2s.
I believe that newer clubs have been able to manipulate mass locations in heads with things like Carbon Crowns, weights in the soles, etc. This may or may not help you so YMMV. I'm sure shaft technology has likely improved as well.
So this post probably has not helped much.
One last thing, I'm sure that modern 7Ws likely have longer shafts these days, so they are probably harder to hit that older ones. That's if you struggle to hit longer clubs like me. Anyhow, good luck with the hunt.
