Love to hear you guys discuss the playability differences and how it relates to the 75-80 mph driver swing and the 50 mph 7 iron swing.

Par4QC My thought, is use multiple balls on the same hole, drive long ball, less than 100 yds switch to the ProvV1s. No doubt some goofy arcane rule against this.🤔

Bravopilot I've seen players do this....hit 1 ball from tee then switch in the FW.

I have used balls that were longer off the tee(for me) but shorter from the FW than my usual ball. May be a problem for a lot of us here. But I'll take that extra from the tee. Got 12-13 more clubs to choose from for that 2nd shot.😉Not married to a certain club for a certain distance from there in.

My concern would be hitting that 4/5 layer ball more offline into the right rough with the extra spin. With the 2/3 piece (ended last season and will be beginning this season) with the Titleist 3 piece ball looking to hit a slight fade. With a more “spiny” ball I’m going to slice it big time - same swing…That 4/5/6 layer ball does nothing for me but cost strokes. I compensate for less spin on approach shots by hitting the ball very high into the green. Unless the green is very hard my shot will stop dead or roll little.

From the article..."For all players except the very slowest of swingers, firmer balls will be faster and softer balls will be slower." I would put some of us codgers below 90 mph driver swing speed in that slow area. I'd say there are more of us than less.

Par4QC Try different balls on the course and when you find one you like, stick to it so you can learn how it plays in different settings.

I usually buy two dozen Kirkland every year. I will have some left over at Christmas. I suck ass 11.6 hcp getting older not better. I hit cart paths but not too many ponds or OB. Point is I use many different golf balls throughout the year. Difference is minimal. I don’t play nitros or shit like that. I’m not seeing the big deal here about senior golfers and ball choices. It usually comes down to our chipping and putting for us low life’s if we’re happy with our scores. A drive of 190, 202, or 225 who gives a fuck. We’re hitting hybrids or 3 woods on our next shots. I still play white or blue tees as our men’s league does. Our par 3s average 190. I’m hitting 4 hybrids some kids are hitting 8 iron. I just don’t think there is a ball out the that will give me a one club edge. Next step for me is convincing our group to move up a set of tees. John keep up with the daily course shooters report. I love it

Balls are not going to make much, if any, diff in our games now.....unless it comes to be a ball made that will give us another 10 yards from tee & FW.

I'd say that the largest and appreciable difference IF you can spin your short irons and wedges and need a specific kind of sound/feel off your putter. IF you can then a good performing urethane cover can help. IF not then I don't see any appreciable advantage.

Par4QC 100 percent agree. I’ve played them all and most likely have the best ones stashed unopened in my stash. I just haven’t noticed any crazy differences between balls is all I’m saying. If my wedges and putter gets hot I can break 80. If everything falls apart I can shoot 90. I’ve never walked away thinking my golf ball fucked me. Now if there is a golf ball out there that can add 10 yards to my drive and approach you bastards better tell me. I’ll pay for that

scotts33 I agree with you. I don’t mind the Kirkland ball. Some people bash it but whatever. I’m not ripping sand wedges back 15 feet like pros do lol. I will not play super hard balls on the course because of sound and feel plus lack of spin. $50 a dozen does not seem to be worth it to me at least from my real world experiences. I play enough golf I would probably notice any meaningful gains or losses. Delicate pitch shots around the greens or half wedges I can definitely tell the difference on spin and feel. Also I’ve hit a ton of shots on my simulator with various ball brands. If you’re a big hitter with high ball speeds and great smash factor numbers I could possibly see the meaningful numbers emerging and separation between balls.

scotts33 agreed. When I was practicing enough to have the balls to hit the low flighted spinners that make everyone’s butt hole pucker, the urethane ball mattered, it HAD to spin or I was gone off the green. I pretty much just flight everything high now because I have no business trying anything that requires hours of practice a week to hit. The difference at this point is really feel and how far it’s going to roll out. There are some shots where I’m not playing a great ball and I wish I had the ability to stop it quicker, but nobody really cares if I shot 87 or 88 (or 108 for that matter), including me haha.

Agree. Start with feel/sound off the putter - which will result in good distance control and 'confidence'.
That then transfers to the short game with wedges and .... distance/spin control = better scores.
Doubt most will find much distance difference with premium balls. JMO.

There is a ball out there that I thought was almost 1/2 club longer....volvik vivid.

I like the ProVX best, it’s goes further, spins harder around the greens and feels better on pretty much every shot. I really don’t bother with it bc of cost and I suck anyway, so it is what it is.

[deleted] No, I have been sitting on a stash of Vice Pro+ that have done well for me, so until those are gone, I’m not using anything other than what I find to be completely honest.

For me (average drive about 225 the past two years) the x version of any ball doesn’t seem to go as far off the driver as the plain version. I like ProV1, TP5, and Chrome Soft all better without the x. It may be a bias based upon feel, but I think the plain versions work better for me.

bigshank my experience has been along your lines of thought, the first wave of Kirkland balls was actually pretty good all around. The ones after, not so much for me, they are not nearly as long and don’t particularly spin well either, but I’m a higher club head speed player. I know a good number of people that love the Ksigs. It’s really just about what works for you. When I find one, I still smack it around until I lose it, I just know my driver won’t carry as far and my wedges aren’t going to be ripping, not a big deal.

If you're going to Dick's and haven't tried Maxfli Tour or Tour X, do yourself a favor and try them. I use the Maxfli Tour X
and have gotten my son hooked on the Maxfli Tours. He used to be exclusive to Pro V1's. You can buy them a lot cheaper.

I've tried those Maxfli balls. Feel is firmer than the ProV1x. Maybe not as long either. For me anyway.
I've got a couple boxes of the MaxFli Tri-Fli....very nice 3 pc. ball, but not urethane.

ProV1x is supposed to be a firmer feeling ball, but for some reason, it seems soft to me & the Prov1 seems much too soft and doesn't go as far(for me). Yes, odd.
